Vietnam's Ambitious Plans for SEA Games 31

The 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) will take place in Vietnam in May and the team is aiming to win over 100 gold medals.

In the 31st Sea Games, Vietnam Sports aims to win 140 gold medals, 77 silver medals, and 71 bronze medals. The official program of the 31st SEA Games includes 40 subjects and 526 contest contents.

In the last three SEA Games, Vietnamese sports won 98/531 gold medals (2019), 58/406 gold medals (2017) and 73/403 gold medals (2015).

The two previous host countries,Malaysia and the Philippines, both won more than 140 gold medals. Malaysia won 145 gold medals at the 29th SEA Games, while thePhilippineswon 149 gold medals at the 30th SEA Games.

At the 2003 SEA Games held for the first time in Vietnam, Vietnamese sports also won 158/444 gold medals, 97 silver medals and 91 bronze medals.

The goal of Vietnamese sports is to try to get the best results in ASIAD and Olympic competitions. However, the goal may be affected when swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien does not attend this year's SEA Games.

The swimmer born in 1996 won 21 gold medals at the 25m National Championships. She in turn won 8 Gold Medals (SEA Games 2015), 8 Gold Medals (SEA Games 2017) and 6 Gold Medals (SEA Games 2019).

Currently, swimming is still aiming for achieving 6-8 Gold Medals. Athletics, the mainstay of Vietnamese sports, is aiming to break a record of 16 gold medals. In addition, karate, taekwondo, judo, shooting, archery, weightlifting, wrestling, fencing, boxing, bodybuilding, etc. strive to win 5-7 gold medals.

Vietnam will be the first host country with the largest number of registered athletes, with more than 1,100 players in SEA Games 31. Thailand is expected to have 1,036 athletes, Singapore 706 athletes, Indonesia 1,001 athletes, Philippines 603 athletes, Malaysia 815 athletes, Myanmar 754 athletes, Cambodia 494 athletes, Laos 363 athletes, and Brunei 41 athletes, Timor Leste 54 athletes.

Currently, the 31st SEA Games Organizing Committee has completed the rules of the 31 SEA Games competitive sports and sent it to the international sports federations of that sport to confirm the correct regulations (39 Federations confirmed, 7 sports are in the process of waiting, including Badminton, Sepak takraw, Tennis, Football, Boxing, Triathlon, Esports)

According to the 31st Southeast Asian Games' Information and Communication Subcommittee, the Organizing Committee of the 31st SEA Games had a meeting and agreed to select the operator area for the event. Vietnam's Formula 1 (F1) racetrack at My Dinh (Hanoi) will be used as a press center and a television center for SEA Games 31.

In order to be prepared for the 31st SEA Games, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports has asked the teams, the training boards, and the directors of the national sports training centers across the country to ensure safety to prevent and control the pandemic, strictly follows travel procedure to ensure the health of officials, coaches and athletes.
