Generally, Vietnamese enterprises exported more than 1.3 billion medical masks of all kinds in the January-November period, with the peak in June with 236.12 million masks.

In fact, the face mask export has been boosted since the end of April, following the Government’s Resolution 60 allowing the unlimited export volume. Since then, many enterprises in the garment and textile industry have continuously increased their production, while the fields heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic have also invested in machinery, shifting to the production of masks, creating a "fever" in the country.

The exported masks mainly include fabric masks, fine dust masks, 100% cotton fabric masks, 2 layers of cotton masks, and medical masks, etc.

Japanese, Korea, Germany, and the US are Vietnam’s four main export markets. In addition, masks are also exported to Hong Kong, Singapore, Poland, Australia, China, Laos, and South Africa.

Several businesses said that to date, the market is gradually saturated since the demand is no longer too high, while the supply soars.

The total export-import turnover nationwide in November 2020 reached USD 49.93 billion, down 3.2% from the previous month. In which, the export value reached USD 25.24 billion, decreased by 7.4%, and the import value reached USD 24.69 billion, increased by 1.5% compared to October 2020.

In the first 11 months of 2020, Vietnam reported a record trade surplus of 20.1 billion USD despite the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy. Total export and import turnover in the first 11 months were estimated at 489.1 billion USD, representing a year-on-year rise of 3.5%. The export value reached 254.6 billion USD, up 5.3 percent and import value stood at 234.5 billion USD, up 1.5 percent. There were 31 products posting an export turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 92% of the total export turnover.

The US remained the largest export market of Vietnamese goods in the 11 months, followed by China, the EU, ASEAN, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
