Unique products tied to local culture
After the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, to recover and promote tourism development, attracting international tourists to Vietnam, the tourism industry has implemented many synchronized solutions.

As a result, in 2023, the total number of international tourists reached 12.5 million, exceeding the set target (8 million), achieving the adjusted target. Domestic tourists are estimated at 108 million, exceeding the annual plan by 5.8%. Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND672 trillion (US$27 billion), exceeding the plan by 3.38%. In the first 7 months of 2024, the total number of international visitors reached nearly 10 million (up 51% compared to the same period in 2023) and increased by 1.9% compared to the same period in 2019. The number of domestic tourists is estimated at about 79.5 million, total tourism revenue is estimated at over VND513 trillion (US$20.62 billion).
Vietnam has been awarded "Asia's Leading Destination 2023" and "Asia's Leading Nature Destination 2023" by the World Travel Awards (WTA). This marks the fifth time Vietnam has been voted "Asia's Leading Destination," highlighting the country's attractiveness.
Notably, the entire industry has developed, renewed, and diversified various tourism products and services, with four main product lines including beach and island tourism, cultural and heritage tourism, community, agricultural, and rural tourism, urban tourism, based on the natural advantages and cultural identity of each region.
Bright spots in the socio-economic picture
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long assessed that localities such as Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Binh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, and Can Tho had many new and creative ways of doing things, associated with introducing OCOP products, street food, culture and arts, street music performances, to impress tourists.
Notably, the Deputy Prime Minister assessed that Vietnam's tourism sector is recovering positively post-pandemic, considered a bright spot in the country's socio-economic picture. He suggested that in the coming time, the tourism industry should focus on quality growth and professionalism, strengthen regional connectivity, and link tourism with other sectors in the tourism development chain.
According to the orientation of industry leaders, Vietnam's tourism in the coming time will focus on linking tourism development with green and sustainable development, following the principle of "putting the tourist experience at the center," striving to welcome 18 million international visitors in 2024.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will focus on the quality growth and professionalism of the tourism industry, strengthen regional connectivity, link tourism with other sectors in the value chain, and pay special attention to developing tourism associated with promoting the value of heritage, and national cultural identity.

Government issues many policies to develop tourismRegarding the tourism sector, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said that the Government and the Prime Minister have issued more than 20 documents to concretize Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW dated January 16, 2017 of the Politburo on developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, concretize the 2017 Tourism Law and the tasks assigned by the National Assembly to restore and develop Vietnam's tourism industry after the Covid-19 pandemic. "To date, the legal system on tourism and policies in this field have basically ensured transparency, feasibility and met development requirements," Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said. |
