World Happiness Report 2024: Vietnam Ranks 6th Among The Happiest Countries In Asia
The report published on the International Day of Happiness on March 20 is based on global survey data from people in more than 140 countries and territories evaluating their lives over the previous three years ( 2021 - 2023). Happiness scores are calculated on a scale of 0 to 10, based on average scores over 3 years.
Accordingly, Vietnam has reached 6,043 points and increased 11 places on the world rankings compared to 2023. Singapore continues to rank 2nd as the happiest country in Asia and ranked 30th out of 143 locations surveyed in the report.
This is also the 7th consecutive year that Finland tops the world list, along with Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland. On the contrary, the UK and the US suddenly dropped in rankings, falling outside the top 20.

8 of the 10 happiest countries are all in Europe, with Denmark ranked 2nd with 7.58 points, equal to Finland's score last year. Iceland ranked 3rd. Afghanistan and Lebanon are the two unhappiest countries on Earth with scores of 1.72 and 2.70 respectively, due to being devastated by war.
John Helliwell, professor of the Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia (Canada), and founding editor of the World Happiness Report, said that Finland scores very high in all aspects, including education and healthcare fields. Immigrants are happy because people are willing to share with newcomers.
This year, for the first time, the report provides separate rankings by age group, so in many cases, there are large differences compared to the overall rankings.
The results show that Denmark is the happiest country in the world for people aged 60 and over, and Lithuania tops the list of happiest for children and young people under 30 years old.

The report shows that young people think they are exhausted and under pressure because of life's worries. They realize that a college degree does not guarantee their financial future. They are forced to fend for themselves with little access to vocational courses and further education that could help raise their social status, income, and self-esteem.
Behind Singapore in Asia are Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, China, and Mongolia. India, the world's most populous country, ranked 126th out of 143 locations surveyed.
