World Vision International Vietnam Launches US $12 Million Project to Assist Sustainable Livelihood Development
Five years ago, the case of poverty eradication for Le Van Ha's family (Nhu Xuan district, Thanh Hoa) was said to be impossible. Since there was little land for production, Le Van Ha and his wife mainly worked as hired laborers. Uncertain and irregular work and insufficient income to support elderly parents and young children make difficulties pile up for this family.
However, with support from World Vision International in Vietnam (WVIV), Le Van Ha was provided with breeding animals. He also participated in training courses on livestock techniques so he could practice sustainable farming methods. In addition, he was instructed to join "Tiet kiem chuyen hoa" groups to build savings habits, plan crops, and prevent risks.
Ha's family's income not only improved significantly thanks to this support. Another positive change is that they are confident they can adapt to future uncertainties.
For ordinary households like Le Van Ha's, they gain not only a sustainable livelihood but also can ensure the welfare for their children. The positive change made by the support from WVIV actively contributes to the economic recovery policy of the Vietnamese government.
On March 18, WVIV officially launched the project "Transforming sustainable household livelihoods", also called "THRIVE 2030", aiming to improve livelihoods and improve the quality of life for 60,337 households living in poverty, near-poor condition, disadvantaged, low-income households, also households with children, especially vulnerable children.
THRIVE 2030 is deployed across 14 provinces and cities including: Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Dien Bien, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Dak Nong, Thanh Hoa , Quang Binh, and Ho Chi Minh CIty. The total beneficials from the project is expected to be more than 300,000.

The main project activities include: Providing tools and resources for beneficiary households to increase the income related to sustainable agricultural, economic and household development; raising one's ability to access and compete in agricultural products trade markets. Another main activity is to create on-site employment opportunities for parents and caregivers, including those aged 15-18.
The launching stage of the project will last until March 25. This stage includes training sessions, discussions and experience sharing from domestic and international experts in Da Nang city, delegation visits to project models in Nam Giang district (Quang Nam province).

Regarding the focus of the projects in Vietnam, Doseba Tua Sinay, National Director, World Vision International in Vietnam, emphasized that Vietnam is the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to implement THRIVE 2030. WVIV strives to fulfill its strong commitment to ensuring child welfare through development, sustainable and secure livelihoods, improving income and quality of life of vulnerable communities in Vietnam. Before Vietnam, the THRIVE 2030 project was implemented by World Vision International in 11 countries across the globe.
