120 Ho Chi Minh City's Youth Join Volunteer Activities in Laos

A delegation of 120 volunteers in Ho Chi Minh City, including youth union members, students, young people, civil servants, doctors, and artists traveled to Laos for volunteer activities on June 15, SGGP reported.
This is also the 20th year that the municipal committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union organized summer volunteer activities in Laos.
Before departing to neighbouring Laos, volunteers laid flowers to the monument of President Ho Chi Minh with promises to complete the mission.
Ho Xuan Lam, Vice Chairman of HCM City Union of Friendship Organizations, presents Khan ran, a traditional checkered black and white shawl, derived from the Khmer krama and worn in the region of Mekong Delta in Vietnam, to the participating volunteers as gifts to encourage them to fufil their assigned tasks well during the campaign.

During the 16-day program until June 30, the volunteers will present medical supplies and equipment and provide free health check-ups and medicines for residents in Samakkhixay, Phouvong, Sanxay, Saysetha, Sanamxay districts of Attapeu province, and Pathoumphone, Soukhoumma, Mounlapamok, Khong, Phonthong districts of Champasak province.
They will also offer water purification machines, Vietnamese-Lao youth friendship houses, reading rooms, indoor playgrounds, and computers; organize vocational training courses for career orientation; and provide support for education development. Additionally, they will organize cultural exchanges marking 20 years of summer volunteer activities in Laos.

The volunteer event aims to enhance international youth exchange activities during the integration process and economic development. It also will contribute to deepening the solidarity and friendship between Laos and Vietnam and further cooperation in economics, culture and society between HCM City and Lao provinces in particular.
