The ceremony attracted the participation of a large number of Vietnamese alumni in Cuba, former South Vietnam Liberation soldiers, businesses, members of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association and embassy staff.

At the ceremony, Chairman of Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association Nguyen Viet Thao said

“If we have to choose an international leader, a foreign character that is closest to the people of Vietnam, then obviously it is Fidel Castro. At the same time, if we need to choose one of the most powerful, most talented leader, Vietnamese people also choose Fidel Castro.’’

As a veteran, former South Vietnam’s liberation soldier, Ngo Xuan Chien (78, Hanoi), has a particularly deep affection for President Fidel Castro, the prominent revolutionary leader.

Chien's memory remains bold on President Fidel Castro's visit to Quang Tri in 1973. Mr Chien said,

“Although saddened by the deatth of Uncle Ho in 1969, when Fidel Castro arrived, the soldiers were wired up spiritually. Fidel Castro is the first head of state in the world to visit Quang Tri. Thanks to Fidel's great encouragement, we had the urge that, despite sacrifices, we were ready for the liberation of the South.’’

Ngo Xuan Chien, a former South Vietnam’s liberation soldier , shares the deep memories of President Castro's visit to Quang Tri in 1973.

Also at the ceremony, participants watched a documentary about Fidel Castro and join the photo exhibition. The Vietnamese Alumni in Cuba has a donation to support Cuban victims during the historic Irma storm.
