57 caves discovered in Phong Nha – Ke Bang
That is the result of the latest survey in 2016, as announced by the British Caving Association on June 22nd.
The People’s Committee of Quang Binh announced the result of the search and investigation of caves in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park on Tuesday, June 22nd. This is the latest search in 2016.
Mr Howard Limbert, the leader of the expedition, said an additional 57 new caves were discovered and investigated in this time.
According to report of the group, many of these 57 caves have now been surveyed and recorded.
The highlight is (temporarily named) Hoa Huong Cave at 2,876m long, Tien Cave at 2,519 long, Bom Cave at 1,500m long, Dinh Cave at 1,430m long, Ruc Ma Rinh Cave at 1,360m long and Cay Sanh Cave at 850m long.
Mr Howard Limbert said many caves were only partially surveyed due to their great length and the time limitation, as well as the hot weather and dry topography.
Besides, the discovery of Hoa Huong Cave is something unusual. Hoa Huong Cave was formed beneath a large lake, unlike most other caves in the area formed by waterflow through eroded limestone karst./.
