This event marked an important milestone in applying Generative AI (Gen AI) in education in Vietnam, providing teachers across the country with the opportunity to showcase creative and unique teaching products to develop thousands of secondary and high school students’ knowledge of computational thinking and inspire them to become engineers in the future.

With over 8,000 applications for the program, along with 15 instructors and advisors and 10 outstanding projects were selected, the event grabbed widespread attention from the Vietnamese education community. More than 827 projects were submitted, showcasing the creativity and dedication of teachers in applying Gen AI to teaching.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Director General of the Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators (under the Ministry of Education and Training), coveyed the ministry's eagerness to work directly with STEAM for Vietnam in the near future to discuss plans to expand training activities for teachers on using AI in teaching, as well as to promote the 10 selected sample lessons and specific products, by adding them to the Ministry's digital repository to help teachers nationwide access and reference them in their activities.

Meanwhile, Tran Viet Hung, Founder of STEAM for Vietnam and representative of the organizing committee, on behalf of STEAM for Vietnam and all partners, shared their delight and joyfulness of the remarkable results of this course. The pioneering teachers have successfully taken the bold step of boarding the Generative AI train, proving that Vietnamese teaching community can keep pace with the world in this technological wave.

For her part, Mary Elizabeth Polley, Counselor for Public Affairs at the US Embassy in Vietnam, voiced her deepest gratitude to all the teachers in the Train the Trainers 2024 program, highlighting their significant contributions in building a vibrant STEAM community that is leading the way in integrating AI into education. The teachers have played a remarkable role in positioning Vietnam as a high-tech economy and preparing Vietnamese students to become future global leaders, she pointed out.

Khuat Dang Khoa, principal of Hai Ba Trung High School (Thach That on the outskirts of Hanoi), one of the two outstanding teachers who won the special award and will have the opportunity to visit the US for further learning and development, expressed that he finds using Gen AI to be extremely convenient and effective in tasks such as reporting and teaching. He hopes that in the near future, all teachers will be able to utilize AI effectively in their teaching work.

Train the Trainers - AI Summer Camp, initiated by STEAM for Vietnam, is one of the first nationwide AI courses for teachers. The course aims to pioneer the integration of AI into education, enabling teachers to apply practical AI applications in the classroom, such as lesson planning, grading, and lecture creation.

The program consists of 8 lectures and is held online every Sunday from June to August 2024. Additional support activities for teachers, educational organizations, and educators will continue throughout the year with the STEAMese Festival 2024 scheduled for October 2024; the Southeast Asia Scratch Educator Meetup 2024 in October 2024; and a series of workshops on AI applications in the teaching community from 2024 to 2025.
