Activities Held Abroad to Mark President Ho Chi Minh’s Birthday
Overseas Vietnamese people and international friends organised many activities to mark the 132nd birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19), reported local news.

The Vietnamese Embassy in the UK has held flower offering ceremonies to celebrate the 132nd birth anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19) at his statue in Newhaven town in the Sussex region and New Zealand House in London.
Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Long recalled President Ho Chi Minh's 30-year journey to seek ways for national salvations, including the time he lived and worked in the UK (1913-1917).
During his stay in the UK, for the first time, the President read the works of two philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, which helped him shape political thought and find ways to liberate the nation, the diplomat said.
He affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh laid the foundation for the friendly relationship between Vietnam and the UK in general, and especially with Newhaven town in particular.
Historical sites such as Newhaven town, New Zealand House and other places in London - where President Ho Chi Minh arrived in, are important in introducing the national liberation cause of Vietnam to UK and international friends.
Newhaven is the place where young patriot Nguyen Tat Thanh used to come when he worked on the international ferry route connecting Newhaven and Dieppe town of France across the English Channel sometime after the World War I.

The Vietnamese Embassy in France and Montreuil’s administration also paid floral tribute to the late President at his statue in Montreau Park on May 19 to mark his 132nd birth anniversary.
In his speech, Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang emphasised the significance of the event as Vietnam marks 35 years since UNESCO honoured President Ho Chi Minh as a national hero and a great man of culture of Vietnam.
Deputy Mayor of Montreuil Florian Vigneron expressed his admiration for President Ho Chi Minh, who dedicated his life to fighting for Vietnam's independence and freedom as well as for valuable values of humankind.
On the occasion, representatives of the embassy visited monuments and places where remembrances and documents related to the late President are preserved and displayed.
In Argentina, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Argentina - Vietnam Culture Institute (ICAV) held a celebration at the Ho Chi Minh Monument in a park named the “Socialist Republic of Vietnam” in Buenos Aires.
ICAV President Poldi Sosa praised the late leader’s enormous contributions to Vietnam, describing Ho Chi Minh as a brilliant example of patriotism and a huge driver for the fights by the oppressed in the world.
She also expressed her hope that his life and career, as well as the history of Vietnam will be further introduced to Argentinian people, especially the young, so as to help enhance the two countries’ friendship.
At the event, participants laid wreaths in commemoration of Ho Chi Minh. A documentary on his life and career and some video clips about Vietnam were also screened.

In Saint Petersburg city of Russia, representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy and people paid tribute to Ho Chi Minh at the site where a statue of the late President will be installed in a square in Vyborgsky district.
The Ho Chi Minh Institute under the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the Saint Petersburg State University also laid flowers in commemoration of the late Vietnamese leader at his monument in the school campus.
The same day, the city’s Committee for External Relations held a seminar on Ho Chi Minh with the participation of local officials, representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese People’s Association in Russia, experts in Oriental studies, former Soviet Union who used to work in Vietnam, along with Vietnamese and Russian students.
The committee and the management board of the Pavlovsk fortress relic site also organised ceremonial cannon firing to celebrate Ho Chi Minh’s birthday, which was also part of the Vietnam Days in Saint Petersburg from May 13 to 20.
From May 17 to 20, the local administration decorated the Palace Bridge on the Neva River with red and yellow lighting representing the colours of Vietnam’s national flag.
Also on May 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria laid flowers to pay tribute to the President on Ho Chi Minh Avenue in Algiers, and the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore paid floral tribute at the Ho Chi Minh monument in the Asian Civilisations Museum.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese People’s Association in Udon Thani province of Thailand held an incense offering ceremony in commemoration of Ho Chi Minh at a relic site named after him in Noong On village of Muong town.
On the occasion of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday, a delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand led by Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh visited Phichit where houses the Ho Chi Minh Museum.
This is one of the three relic sites dedicated to the leader in Thailand, along with others in Udon Thani and Nakhon Phanom.

The Vietnamese community in Hungary and Hungarian friends on May 18 also gathered at a ceremony in Zalaegerszeg city where President Ho Chi Minh’s statue is located to pay homage to the late leader.
Highlighting the President’s trip to Hungary in 1957, Dr. Botz László, President of the Hungary-Vietnam Friendship Association, said it has laid a firm foundation for the good friendship between peoples of the two countries.
The Vietnamese Embassies in Cambodia, Brazil as well as embassy in charge of Pakistan and Afghanistan also held an incense-offering ceremony to pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh on his 132nd birthday.
