Assc.Prof.Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Head of Health Ministry's Medical Examination and Treatment Department, said that the transferal of heart surgery facilities is meeting an essential demand from Hai Phong Children’s Hospital and permits convenient conditions for patients in the city as well as in neighbouring localities.

“Heart surgery is a difficult technique which requires the receivers to have adequate equipment and human resources,” said Mr. Khue. “Therefore, the technique has only been transferred to hospitals at the provincial level, and Hai Phong Children’s Hospital is among a few hospitals to receive the technique.”

The first phase of the transferal was conducted in February, 2012. Accordingly, the Hai Phong Children’s Hospital sent doctors, nurses and technicians to the National Pediatrics Hospital to study the technique and join practical surgery.

Now, the Hai Phong Children’s Hospital is totally independent on diagnosing, operating and treating heart patients with the new expertise and facilities. So far 108 child patients have been successfully operated on at the hospital, creating a foundation for heart surgery in more complicated cases.

According to the Ministry of Health, 38 provinces have joined the satellite hospital system. Earlier, the Prime Minister asked the ministry to expand the system so that by the end of 2016, satellite hospitals will be built in all provinces and cities as a way to train high quality human resources for hospitals at the lower level and to reduce the pressure for central hospitals./.
