(VNF) - A photography exhibition entitled “ASEAN People and Countries” was launched at the Hai Phong Fine Arts Centre on August 7^th, as part of the celebration to mark the 50^th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN (1967-2017).

The exhibition features 230 photographs by 136 authors, selected from a contest launched by the Department of Art, Photography and Exhibitions under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which attracted 10,127 entries by 1,248 amateur and professional artists from 10 ASEAN countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam.

The works display for the visitors a clear insight into the cultural and socioeconomic situation, as well as the exchange activities among ASEAN countries. The exhibition is also expected to strengthen the understanding and alignment of the bloc’s members, contributing to the building of a dynamic and prosperous ASEAN community.

The exhibition also presents opportunities for regional photographers, including Vietnamese to exchange and learn from each other.

Earlier, the exhibition was displayed at Ly Thai To Statue Square on Hanoi's walking street from August 5^th.

On the occasion, 10 photographers, each from the 10 ASEAN nations, were honoured with an “ASEAN Photo Cup” for their outstanding art works.

They are “ASEAN 13 Omar Ali Saifudden Mosque2” by Haji Jumat Bin Haji Taha (Brunei Darussalam); “Number of tourists from different” by Phat Dara (Cambodian); “Pacu Jawi” by John Hantoro Pudjoko (Indonesian); “That Luang Stupa in Vientiane” by Ikham Khamlasee (Lao); “We love Malaysia” by Tan Ee Long (Malaysian); “Kyite htee yoe: The Golden Rock Pagoda” by Nyaung U Than Htay (Myanmar); “Fluvial Parade Dinagyang Festival” by Raniel Jose Castaneda (Philippines); “Marina Bay” by Ho Hon Yew (Singapore); “Releasing” by Wannapong Surarochprajak (Thailand) and “Bac Son Valley” by Vu Kim Khoa (Vietnam).

After being displayed in Hanoi and Hai Phong, the photo exhibition will then head to Quang Ninh and Bac Lieu provinces./.
