The Embassy of Vietnam together with other Embassies and High Commissions of the ASEAN Member States inSingapore jointly hosted “ASEAN Gala Night 2023” event by showing ASEAN countries' food fair and cultural performance with aims to promoting the region's cultural diversity and its richness.

The ASEAN Gala Night has been a tradition among the ASEAN resident missions in Singapore to cap off the ASEAN Chairmanship.

Officers and staff of the various ASEAN Embassies in Singapore who were garbed in their respective national dresses, private guests, and sponsors attended the ASEAN Gala Night.

Highlights of the Gala Night included a traditional food market, traditional and contemporary cultural performances as well as displays of arts, crafts, and fashion.

Each ASEAN embassy uniquely designed its country booth and showcased two main dishes and two desserts for the buffet. Songs and dances highlighted the richness and diversity of the region’s culture.

Vietnamese food stalls always have long lines of diners waiting for their turn to enjoy traditional dishes such as fried spring rolls, pho, and fresh spring rolls, and especially, Vietnamese pho has become a messenger connecting cultures.

According to the Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Mai Phuoc Dung, the cuisine of ASEAN countries is rich and the gala was an important event where all countries can share the beauty of their countries' culture and cuisine with all their friends.

He voiced his appreciation and hopes to continue to organize a Vietnamese stall here next year.

Traditional Vietnamese dishes such as Pho (rice noodles with broth) and Nem (spring rolls) drew the special interest of participants.

The Gala Night marked Indonesia's successful year as ASEAN Chairman with the message of a united ASEAN, playing a central role in the process of maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Suryo Pratomo stressed that the embassies have been working together for the past month to organize the gala night. He's happy that they can show the world ASEAN culture and cuisine through such an event, and he also hopes that people around the world will want to learn about ASEAN.

The gala night was initiated by the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore in 2010.
