The sepak takraw squad added a bronze medal to Vietnam’s 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD) tally in the women’s team regu event on August 22.

Despite their concerted efforts, Vietnamese players could not overcome the Republic of Korea (RoK) opponents in the semifinals, losing the match 0-2 to share the third place with Myanmar, who were defeated by Thailand in the remaining semifinal clash.

It was the second medal won by the Vietnamese delegation on Wednesday, following wushu artist Hoang Thi Phuong Giang, who also claimed a bronze in the women’s changquan event with 9.71 points, behind China’s Qi Xinyi with 9.74 points and Li Yi from Macau (China) with 9.72 points.

Tennis star Ly Hoang Nam failed to make the quarterfinals of the men’s singles category after succumbing to a 1-2 defeat (3-6, 7-5, 4-6) at fourth-seeded Prajnesh Gunneswaran of India in the Round of 16.

The golden hope of Vietnamese cycling, Nguyen Thi That, also competed unsuccessfully, ending up in fifth place overall in the women’s 100km inpidual road race with a time of 2:57:35, 28 seconds slower than the bronze medalist, Yonamine Eri of Japan.

Swimming is expected to see more medals won for Vietnam, as Le Thi My Thao and Nguyen Huu Kim Son have qualified for tonight’s women’s 200m butterfly and men’s 400m medley finals. In the preliminary round, My Thao clocked a time of 2:12.14, while Kim Son completed the race in 4:27.18.

The Vietnam men’s epee team, including Nguyen Thi Nhat, Nguyen Phuoc Den and Tran Ut Ngoc, stopped in the quarterfinals, losing 31-45 to the Chinese fencers.

Gymnasts failed to make the men’s team podium, finishing fifth overall with a total score of 234.750, behind China (260.950), Japan (248.550), the Republic of Korea (247.400), and Chinese Taipei (240.300).

As of 6pm today, Vietnam temporarily stood at 19^th position in the medal table with three silvers and six bronzes./.
