AWCH’s New Year Gathering: Celebrating Culture and Connection Among ASEAN Countries

This gathering marked AWCH's first activity of 2025, aiming to further strengthen solidarity and friendship among ASEAN countries, foster cooperative relations with partners, and promote Vietnamese culture to international friends.
It also served as part of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of AWCH’s founding (2015–2025), highlighting a decade of contributions to building the ASEAN Community.
At the event, guests enjoyed the artworks of Le Thieu Ngan, former lecturer at the University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; and spouse of former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh.
Additionally, a special cultural performance featured classical and lyrical songs; clarinet, violin, and piano pieces performed by artists from the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Attendees also engaged in conversations and shared insights into the unique cultures of each country, and their personal life experiences.

Ngo Phuong Ly, spouse of General Secretary To Lam expressed her joy in reuniting with AWCH members, female ambassadors, and spouses of ambassadors from ASEAN Partner countries. She warmly congratulated AWCH on its achievements and recognized the group’s dedication and contributions to building and developing the ASEAN Community over the past decade.
Reflecting on 2025 as a milestone year for ASEAN and Vietnam, marking the 10th anniversary of the ASEAN Community (2015–2025) and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam’s accession to ASEAN (1995–2025), the spouse expressed her confidence that AWCH would continue to unite and contribute to strengthening the bonds and cooperation among ASEAN countries and between ASEAN and its partners.
On this occasion, she extended congratulations to Laos for successfully fulfilling its role as Chair of ASEAN 2024 and expressed confidence that Malaysia would excel in assuming the chairmanship in 2025.

Akiko Morioka, spouse of the Malaysian Ambassador noted the significant role of ambassadors’ spouses in fostering connections and nurturing friendship among countries and peoples. She emphasized that AWCH activities offer valuable opportunities for exchanging new ideas and exploring ways to build a cohesive and united ASEAN Community while striving together for noble ideals in life.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang commended AWCH for its important contributions over the past decade. These efforts have promoted cultural exchange, understanding, and the rich cultural identities of ASEAN countries.
The Deputy Minister also highlighted major milestones for Vietnam in 2025, including the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s founding, the 50th anniversary of national reunification, and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam’s membership in ASEAN.
Reaffirming the ministry’s support for AWCH activities, she expressed hope for another vibrant and passionate year filled with meaningful initiatives and programs. Through these efforts, AWCH would further foster friendship, solidarity, and cooperation among ASEAN member states and partners, while spreading the positive values of the ASEAN community.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, female ambassadors and spouses of ambassadors from ASEAN and ASEAN Partner countries in Hanoi shared their appreciation for the support of Ngo Phuong Ly and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for AWCH activities. They also conveyed heartfelt sentiments and reflections on the culture and people of Vietnam.
The AWCH New Year gathering concluded with laughter, heartfelt handshakes, and warm embraces among AWCH members and guests. Above all, it ended with hope and confidence for a prosperous New Year in 2025.
