The AWO Vietnamese-language school in Berline held a ceremony to mark its 15th founding anniversary and the 41st Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, VNA reported.

Phan Quang Van, First Secretary in charge of education at the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, praised the efforts of AWO Vietnamese School, teachers, and students, acknowledging the contributions of the Bayouma-Haus Intercultural Center and Vietnamese organizations in Germany in promoting the movement of teaching Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture in the capital Berlin.

In the context of economic integration, he stressed, learning the Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture become more important than ever because it enables Vietnamese people to introduce their culture to international friends.

Meanwhile, Oliver Nöll, Deputy Mayor of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, said that over the years, many groups of foreigners have moved to live in the district, but Vietnamese people are the largest group. The strong development of the Vietnamese community not only spreads to the native German community but also to other foreign communities. He voiced his appreciation for the contributions made by the Vietnamese community to the district.

The school was established in 2008 by teacher Nguyen Thu Loan who teaches teaching Vietnamese language to people every Sunday. Vietnamese classes, from having only about 10 students, gradually increased to 60-70 students, sometimes reaching up to 80 students, forcing Loan to divide into three classes and three different shifts.

After 15 years, the center has had thousands of students studying. In addition to Vietnamese being taught according to the books of the Education Ministry of Vietnam, with adjustments to suit the situation, teacher Nguyen Thu Loan also integrates into the lesson topics about family, country, and the characteristics of the traditional culture of Vietnamese people.

The Family Day is an annual traditional day of AWO Vietnamese-language school but was interrupted during the Covid-19. This year, Family Day is restarted, bringing excitement to teachers, students, and parents.

The ceremony featured many singing, dancing, and martial arts performances by school students and a dance performance by the Berlin Dance Team. This dance team gathers middle-aged Vietnamese women, meets once a week, and has also become a member of the Bayouma-Haus Multicultural Center, serving as a cultural bridge with other foreign communities.

In addition to the dance team, the Bayouma-Haus Intercultural Center also has a dance club for the elderly with two Vietnamese dance teachers, attracting both Vietnamese and foreigners to participate.
