President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga on March 23 has attended and directed the fourth congress of the Union of Friendship Organizations of Ca Mau Province, term 2021 - 2026.

Speaking at the congress, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga congratulated and praised the achievements that the Ca Mau Friendship Union has achieved in the past term. According to Nga, the congress was held at the time when Ca Mau Union had just turned 25 years old.

In the last term, the Ca Mau Union and its member associations have achieved important results in the fields of peace, solidarity and friendship, international people-to-people cooperation, aid mobilization, external information, and overseas Vietnamese work..

Together with the three Friendship Associations with Cambodia, China, and the Republic of Korea (RoK), the Provincial Friendship Union has made great efforts to organize friendship activities, contributing to strengthening relations with peoples of the countries.

Ca Mau Union has actively implemented the task of being the focal point of foreign non-governmental aid mobilization. Currently, there are 26 NGOs registered to operate in the province. In the 2016-2021 period alone, they have mobilized a number of projects with an aid value of more than VND 249 billion (USD 10.8 million), making a positive contribution to the socio-economic development of Ca Mau.

VUFO President Nga said that as the southernmost province of the country, with three sides bordering the sea with a coastline of 254 km, Ca Mau holds a central position connecting with countries in the region, rich in natural resources. The natural and economic potentials, especially the marine economic potential, the unique tourism potential with the mangrove ecosystem, are now attractive destinations for many big investors, especially in the fields of tourism. renewable energy, agriculture, high technology, urban development.

Furthermore, Ca Mau has a large population, many ethnic groups, religions, people rich in patriotic and revolutionary traditions, rich in cultural life, and rich in identity; These are favorable preconditions for the province's people-to-people diplomacy.

Nga suggested that in the new term, the Ca Mau Union should actively advise the provincial leaders to direct, thoroughly understand and develop an action plan to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Directive 12 of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat on people-to-people diplomacy.

Actively implementing Directive No. 38-CT/TW dated September 19, 2019, of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat on continuing to innovate, promote the role and improve the quality and performance of the VUFO in the new situation and the Charter of the VUFO was approved by the Prime Minister on March 23, 2021.

Along with that, improving the efficiency of people-to-people diplomatic activities, practically serving the country's development requirements, first of all, performing the key tasks in pandemic prevention and recovery and socio-economic development.

Promoting the initiative and creativity of member associations, proposing initiatives and organizing people-to-people activities to strengthen relations with neighboring countries, traditional friends, major partners. Especially in 2022, the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations will take place, the organization of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Year, the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam - RoK ties.

It is necessary to closely associate people-to-people diplomacy with promoting economic cooperation, investment, trade, science and technology, education and training, tourism, mobilizing resources for Provincial socio-economic development, the VUFO leader said.

Actively and proactively developing and implementing the provincial foreign non-governmental project advocacy program, increasing the use of online forms to connect and interact with NGOs, mobilizing resources to carry out priority projects to properly meet the local development goals and requirements, especially in the fields of environment, climate change, health care, and education.

At the same time, strengthening the work of information and communication abroad, attaching importance to the application of information technology, improving the quality of newsletters and websites in dual languages English and Vietnamese, to inform information about Ca Mau, Vietnam's achievements in all aspects, our stance on issues related to the East Sea situation and national sovereignty; demarcation and border management; as well as achievements in the fields of democracy, human rights, ethnicity and religion.

Strengthening connections and promoting the role of Ca Mau people living abroad in contributing to building a beautiful homeland, Nga highlighted.

Nevertheless, focusing on building, training, and fostering staff and officials engaged in people-to-people diplomacy work. Advising the provincial leaders to organize training conferences on people-to-people diplomacy and researching the possibility of establishing more friendship associations.

Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee Huynh Quoc Viet said that people-to-people diplomacy has been identified by our Party as an important task of both the political system and the entire people. Together with the Party's diplomacy and the State's diplomacy, it forms a solid foothold for Vietnam's diplomacy.

In the past time, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, with the spirit of solidarity and high determination, Ca Mau Friendship Union and its member associations have effectively implemented and completed the tasks set out above.

In addition, with many rich and diverse activities, synchronously and widely deployed on all three fronts: political diplomacy, economic diplomacy and cultural diplomacy, creating favorable conditions for local people-to-people diplomacy made strong development in many fields.

Notably, activities of peace, solidarity and friendship with countries and international organizations are focused on deploying with many new and practical features, attracting the participation of a large number of friends from other countries around the world.

The congress has chosen a new executive committee and standing committee, led by Nguyen Dong Khoi, elected president of the Ca Mau Friendship Union.

On this occasion, the VUFO President presented seven individuals with medals for peace and friendship among nations; awarded certificates of merit to collectives and individuals who have made many positive contributions to people's foreign affairs in the period 2016 - 2021.

The Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee also presented many certificates of merit to collectives and individuals.
