(VNF) - The National Boxing Clubs Championship 2016 opened on April 18th in Luu Huu Phuoc park, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city.

Co-organized by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, and the Can Tho city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the event is a part of the national high record sports system, and aims to check, evaluate the performances of the athletes, as well as to find the best athletes for national squads. All players of the national boxing team have attended.

The tour attracted as many as 239 competitors from 32 province/city/sector including Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh city, Binh Dinh, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Tien Giang, Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Lam Dong, Military, Public Security, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak, Vinh Long, Hai Duong, Son La, Da Nang, Hai Phong, An Giang, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Lang Son, Nghe An, Binh Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh, Kien Giang, Lao Cai, Binh Phuoc and the host Can Tho.

The Hanoi delegation sent the most players with 29 athletes, following by the Military delegation (19 athletes), while the Ninh Binh delegation just has only one member.

They compete in 11 events for men’s and 11 events for women’s, for 22 medal categories.

The tour is scheduled to close on April 27th.

Boxing is a martial art and combat sport in which two people throw punches at each other, usually with gloved hands. Historically, the goals have been to weaken and knock down the opponent./.
