Chile's National Day Celebrated in Hanoi

The Chilean Ambassador to Vietnam expressed his wish that the friendship and cooperative relations between Chile and Vietnam will continue to develop, on occasion of Chile's National Day

The Chilean Embassy in Vietnam recently held a ceremony to celebrate the 213th anniversary of Chile's National Day in Hanoi (September 18, 1810 - 2023).

Attending the ceremony were Ambassador Sergio Narea Guzman, staff of the Chilean Embassy in Vietnam, and the Diplomatic Corps and the Chilean community in Hanoi.

On the Vietnamese side were Foreign Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc; Dang Thuan Phong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Social Affairs, Chairman of the Vietnam-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group; Do Thi Thu Thao, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union; Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); along with former Vietnamese Ambassadors to Chile, officials of the Foreign Ministry, representatives of central agencies and organizations of Vietnam.

Chile's National Day Celebrated in Hanoi
On September 20, the Chilean Embassy in Vietnam recently held a ceremony to celebrate the 213th anniversary of Chile's National Day in Hanoi (September 18, 1810 - 2023).

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc reviewed important events in the bilateral cooperation relationship between Chile and Vietnam from 1971 to present.

He emphasized that efforts to consolidate political dialogue, cultural exchange and economic cooperation will continue to build a solid foundation so that the relationship between the two peoples will become stronger and stronger.

He also sent best wishes to the Chilean ambassador and his staff in Vietnam as well as the Chilean people on the occasion.

On Chile's side, Ambassador Sergio Narea Guzman highlighted the relationship of solidarity, friendship and trusted cooperation between Vietnam and Chile over the past half century, with comprehensive development from politics, economics, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Although Vietnam and Chile are geographically far apart, they have always maintained a traditional and close cooperative relationship both during the period when the Vietnamese people fought for national independence in the past as well as in the cause of construction and develop the country today. The two sides always give each other support, attachment and close cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), the Vietnam-Chile trade has expanded impressively over the recent years, reaching USD 2.15 billion in 2022, a year-on-year rise of 9%, including Vietnam’s exports of USD 1.72 billion.

Due to the global crisis, two-way trade growth is slowing down. In the first five months of this year, the figure dropped to USD 696.7 million, down 25.1% year on year, including Vietnam’s exports of USD 501 million.

However, Vietnam is still the largest trade partner of Chile among the ASEAN member countries and gateway for Chilean goods to enter the ASEAN market, according to the MoIT.

With a continuous rise in bilateral trade in recent years, Chile has become the fourth largest trade partner and one of the biggest markets of Vietnam in the Latin American region.
