Club of Former Doctors, Pharmacists Studying in France Debuts

Speaking at the October 14 launching ceremony of the Club of former doctors and pharmacists studying in France, French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet said that the generations of Vietnamese doctors and pharmacists studying in France are the pillars of this long-term relationship and of a promising future for Vietnam's healthcare sector.
"The French embassy is committed to standing side by side with you to support this dynamism by enhancing exchanges and facilitating cooperation projects," said the diplomat.

Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan, health deputy minister, welcomed the establishment of the club. This is an extremely meaningful milestone in the Vietnam - France cooperation relationship in general and the medical cooperation relationship in particular.
The club, he added, will become an effective connection channel between Vietnam and the French Republic in the coming time, further promoting the already excellent cooperation relations in the past.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, former health minister, president of the club, stressed that since 1993, with the support of the French government, many medical training projects, expert exchanges, and provision of medical equipment and drugs have been implemented. The programs of training doctors and pharmacists in France, inter-university training in Vietnam have not only contributed to the modernization of the Vietnamese health system but also trained thousands of good specialists for the country.
"After a short period of announcement and mobilization, nearly 200 doctors and pharmacists who had studied in France from all regions, agencies from the health ministry, universities, research institutes, central and local hospitals registered to join the club," Tien expressed her hope and expectation for further development in Vietnam-France medical cooperation, strengthening training, research and exchange activities between doctors and pharmacists who had studied in France, connecting generations for common development.

On the occassion, Ambassador Olivier Brochet also awarded the Order of Academic Palms to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, rector of Hanoi Medical University, on behalf of the French Government, VOV reported.
The French Ambassador stated that the honor has recognized Prof. Dr. Tu’s contributions to the overall development of Francophone cooperation in Vietnam, and especially in the field of medical training between France and Vietnam.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu was made rector of Hanoi Medical University in November 2021. Prior to his promotion, he served as a professor of anesthesiology at Hanoi Medical University since 1995 and spent over 20 years working as an anesthetist at Hanoi’s Viet Duc University Hospital.
Prof. Dr. Tu has made many contributions to connecting and building exchange programmes on training cooperation and student and lecturer exchanges with prestigious and long-standing institutions of France, including Sorbonne University, Montpellier Medical University, and Aix Marseille Medical University.
The Professor is also the second representative of the Vietnamese medical industry to receive this prestigious award, following the late Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ton That Bach.
Initiated by Napoleon I in 1808, the Order of Academic Palms honors individuals who have made significant contributions to enriching the cultural heritage values and developing art and science in France and beyond.
