The works are part of the community-based ecotourism development project held by Tam Ky city’s People’s Committee and teachers of the Singapore Technology and Design University as well as Vietnam’s Fine Arts Association, colleges in Hanoi and local painters.

The team took its inspiration from daily life in the fishing village, using watercolour to depict locals on bumper fishing trip, weaving nets, making bamboo baskets.

The boats were gathered by local fishermen who also joined in the painting of natural landscapes and daily life activities of local people.

The boats are displayed along a road leading to the commune which is expected to become a new tourist attraction in the area.

Last year, the village, 10km away from Quang Nam province’s Tam Ky city, attracted thousands of tourists with its murals project in Trung Thanh hamlet.

The village was decorated with colourful murals on the moss-covered walls under the Korea Foundation Community Art Exchange Programme, with participation from five artists from the Republic of Korea (RoK) and 12 volunteers.

Artists turned the old walls of 100 houses in the village to colourful murals, depicting portraits of villagers, local scenes and regional panoramas.

Tam Thanh used to be a poor fishing village, like other hundred thousand villages across the country. However, an art project with the participating of artists from both Vietnam and the RoK has changed the image of Tam Thanh completely.

Tam Thanh is the first mural village in Vietnam while in RoK, the culture of mural painting on buildings and villages has become very popular./.
