Commemoration Ceremony for 64 Soldiers who Fell while Protecting Gac Ma Island
On their trip to visit the soldiers and people in Truong Sa island district, Khanh Hoa province for the coming Tet, Ship 571 Working Group held a memorial ceremony for officers and soldiers who died while protecting Gac Ma island.
The memorial ceremony for heroic martyrs was held in a solemn and moving atmosphere. Delegations offered incense and flowers to commemorate the 64 officers and soldiers who sacrificed their lives while on duty to protect island sovereignty.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tho, Deputy Brigade Commander of Brigade 146, Region 4 of the Navy, Head of the working group, said: "With emotion and infinite love, we vow to follow in the footsteps of the fallen heroes and martyrs, staying unite, strive to overcome difficulties, be alert, willing to fight, to train, adhere to disciplines. We are determined to do our best to firmly protect the sovereignty of the country's waters, islands, and sacred continental shelf to live up to the noble merits and sacrifices of the heroic martyrs."
The ceremony reminds today's generations of the heroic and indomitable tradition of their ancestors, showing their pride, gratefulness, and respect for those who are willing to sacrifice their lives for the sovereignty of the sea and islands, the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
The working group respectfully commemorates the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives to protect Gac Ma island.
The Navy soldiers' contributions to the country are taken over by the younger generations, navy officers, soldiers, and forces at sea.
All members of the delegation pray for the souls of the martyrs, to bless the Vietnamese people and army with strength, and determination to overcome all difficulties and reach new successes to firmly protect the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's sea and islands.

The Truong Sa Islands are an inseparable part of Vietnam's sacred territory. Each coral reef, grain of sand, tree branch, and blade of grass here carries the soul of the nation, protected by generations of Vietnamese people.
