Bringing Tet to Truong Sa Soldiers, Islanders

Every year, when the lunar New Year (Tet) festival draws near, the Vietnam People’s Navy dispatches a special trip for reporters bringing heartwarming gifts from the mainland to Truong Sa soldiers and islanders and making reports about their life.

The Fourth Regional Command of the Vietnam’s People’s Navy on January 3 held a departure ceremony at Cam Ranh military port of Khanh Hoa province, to send off a visiting delegation delivering Lunar New Year 2024 wishes and gifts to officers and soldiers, residents working and living on the Truong Sa archipelago.

Attending the ceremony to send off the troops to Truong Sa were a large number of officers, soldiers, people and representatives of departments and branches of Khanh Hoa province along with nearly 100 reporters from central and local press agencies. The joyful and exuberant atmosphere was clearly visible on the faces of every soldier going on duty.

Speaking at the meeting, Colonel Nguyen Huu Minh, deputy political commissar of the Fourth Regional Command, hoped that the working group would bring a lot of love from the mainland to the officers and soldiers who are protecting the sea and islands day and night.

Previously, the Political Department, General Political Department of the Ministry of National Defense developed a plan to organize reporters to work on islands and rigs during the Lunar New Year 2024.

The Fourth Regional Command also has developed a plan to take and welcome reporters on field trips to cover about the combat readiness to protect sea and island sovereignty; search and rescue work, helping fishermen go out to sea; transporting goods for officers, soldiers and people to enjoy spring, celebrate Tet and the lives and activities of officers, soldiers, and people on the islands of the Truong Sa archipelago.

Pham Hong Hanh, head of the Propaganda Department of Hai Duong province's Tu Ky district shared that going to Truong Sa has been her dream for many years. Being on the list to go to Truong Sa this time was lucky for her. Even though she knew that Truong Sa has strong winds and storms at the end of the year, along with her own busy year-end work, she wanted to bring the warmth and affection of her hometown to the soldiers of the Truong Sa archipelago.

She said she would come to Truong Sa with a happy mind. And she felt fortunate to be there to witness the people, the soldier's bravery, and their will to overcome all difficulties to successfully complete the task of preserving the homeland's islands and seas and preserving the integrity of the territory.

After this trip, Hanh said, she wants to be a bridge and popularize soldiers's images and their will to Party members, especially young people, about the homeland's islands and islands, about the responsibility to preserve the islands and continue the paternal generation, and participates in construction tasks, as well as military rear policies to care for families whose members are on duty to preserve the country's sea and sky.

Also on this business trip, Fourth Regional Command brought essential goods to the troops and people on the islands. Goods include the standard regimen of soldiers and necessities supported by agencies, unions, and businesses. Each Tet gift filled with love from the mainland, carefully packaged, preserved, and filled with Tet flavors are brought by ships to the beloved Truong Sa island district.

The working group is expected to visit the islands and military stations in Truong Sa district, bringing with them the warm love, sharing and concern of the Party and State leaders, relatives and people nationwide, hoping that officers and soldiers on remote islands can welcome the new spring in the fullness of joy and happiness.
