Acting State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended condolences to Acting President of Iran Mohammad Mokhber after the tragedy, cited VNA.

Newly-elected National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent a message of condolences to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf over the loss of two of Iran’s most influential political figures on the same day.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son also conveyed his condolences to Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani.

Iranian state media said the helicopter carrying the president "made a hard landing" in bad weather conditions on May 12. Rescue teams approached the crash scene and found the wreckage of the helicopter the very next day.

According to Global Times, late President Raisi Raisi, along with his accompanying team on board three helicopters, was on his way from Khoda Afarin County — where he had attended the inauguration ceremony of a dam along with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev earlier in the day — to the provincial capital Tabriz for the inauguration of a petrochemical complex. The other members onboard Raisi's helicopter, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Governor of East Azerbaijan Province Malek Rahmati, as well as the flight crew, also lost their lives.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on May 13 announced five days of public mourning for President Ebrahim Raisi following his death in the helicopter crash and confirmed First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as interim head of the country's executive branch, reported Reuters.

Born in 1960, late President Raisi served as a senior judiciary official for many years. In 2021, he was elected as Iran's eighth president.
