Great demand for logistics services

On the afternoon of May 18, Vietnam Automobile Transport Association (VATA) and Shenzhen Container Transport Association (SCTA) organized a seminar titled "Business opportunities and cooperation potential" to promote cooperation in the fields of forwarding, freight transport and logistics.

Nguyen Van Quyen, head of the Vietnam Automobile Transport Association, said that in 1995, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and China reached about US$690 million.

By 2023, two-way trade turnover has increased to US$171 billion, an increase of nearly 250 times after 19 years. In recent years, two-way trade has played an important role in socio-economic development between the two countries.

In recent times, with support and favorable conditions between the Government and relevant agencies of Vietnam and China, road transport activities between Vietnam and China had many advantages, making an important contribution to the outstanding growth of trade turnover between Vietnam and China.

"Changes in trade and investment relations between the two countries are bringing many opportunities for economic exchanges in general and logistics cooperation in particular," Quyen said.

He said that the scope of cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese logistics businesses is not only the transportation of two-way commercial goods, but also e-commerce goods, machinery and equipment, and supplies for production in Vietnam.

In particular, tens of billions of dollars of Chinese investment in production and business are creating demand for logistics services from Chinese businesses in Vietnamese territory, creating a flow of goods between Vietnam and the rest of the world.

Besides, according to geographical location, Vietnam has the advantage of connecting Yunnan province and some areas of Guangxi province, China with the seaport cluster in Hai Phong area of Vietnam.

This is also a good potential and opportunity for member businesses of the two Associations to increase their search for cooperation opportunities, build a community of logistics companies that continues to develop sustainably, contributing to the general prosperity of the country.

Investment opportunities

Speaking at the event, Mai Xuan Loi, chairman of Shenzhen Container Transport Association, also shared his vision on cooperation opportunities based on economic relations between Guangdong province with Vietnam, and ASEAN countries.

According to Loi, Vietnam has signed 17 free trade agreements, this is a huge development opportunity for Vietnam. Besides, in the wave of investment shifts, many Chinese businesses have come to invest in Vietnam.

Commenting on four closely related industries including trade, logistics, finance, and manufacturing, the SCTA Chairman expressed his desire to promote cooperation with the Vietnam Automobile Transport Association to strengthen the logistics industry between the two countries.

"The immediate supply chain of raw materials from China to Vietnam if traveling by sea will take a long time, while traveling by air is quite expensive. Therefore, if we can develop a road route, it will bring great efficiency and reduce logistics costs," Loi said.

Sharing the vision of cooperation prospects between VATA and SCTA, Tran Duc Nghia, vice chairman of the Vietnam Automobile Transport Association, emphasized Vietnam's geographical advantages on the trans-Asian road, connecting China with the ASEAN market by road.

"This trans-Asia route is currently providing the market with an option that is cheaper than air and has faster transit times than sea. This trans-Asia route currently has an estimated traffic of about 200,000 TEUs/year," Nghia said.
