First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez has thanked Vietnam and other international friends for their support to the Caribbean nation in times of hardship.

The leader wrote on Twitter on July 30 that the solidarity between Cuba and others had been strengthened during difficult times, voicing his gratitude to governments and peoples that have helped Cuba.

He also shared an article published on Granma daily newspaper - the official mouthpiece of the PCC, highlighting international support for Cuba over the past days.

The newspaper cited an announcement by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on presenting 12,000 tonnes of rice to Cuba, in which he said that Vietnam will stand side by side with the Caribbean country.

Other countries like Bolivia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Russia and numerous organisations have also committed or sent food and medical supplies to Cuba, Granma reported.

At a reception for Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolás Hernández Guillén on July 29, PM Chinh said Vietnam will present Cuba 10,000 tonnes of rice, while Hanoi also offerred Havana another 2,000 tonnes with a hope of easing difficulties facing Cuban people amid Covid-19.

Vietnam will ship the rice to Cuba as soon as possible, Chinh promised, expressing his hope that the two sides would further enhance cooperation to ensure food security for Cuba.

The ambassador thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their support, which, he said, demonstrated the special traditional friendship between the two countries.
