Cuban Diplomat Hails Former Deputy PM Vu Khoan

In Havana, former Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Fredesmán Turró González shared many memories of former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan, a faithful friend of the Cuban people.
Fredesmán twice held the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Vietnam. The Cuban diplomat had many opportunities to meet and work with former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan.
In memory of Ambassador Fredesmán, former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan is a sincere, simple, wise, and experienced comrade.
Fredesmán recalled that "During my first term as Ambassador to Vietnam (1999-2004), Comrade Vu Khoan was Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation.
He supported the promotion of economic and trade relations between Cuba and Vietnam".
Former Ambassador Fredesmán said that when deciding to update the economic model, Cuba sent a group of experts to study and learn from Vietnam's experiences.
At that time, Former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan spent a lot of time with Cuban experts, explaining in detail Vietnam's renewal process through the periods.

The former Cuban Ambassador appreciated the contributions of former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan to Vietnam's diplomacy, especially regional and international economic integration.
Vu Khoan's diplomatic career has many bright spots, notably Vietnam's accession to ASEAN and its free trade zone, followed by the Vietnam-US Trade Agreement, and the negotiations to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan and the Government contributed to ending the embargo on Vietnam and having a new foreign policy.
Former Ambassador Fredesmán said "Comrade Vu Khoan's loss is a great loss that cannot be compensated for. He is a sincere and simple friend of Cuba. I would like to send my deep condolences to his family, relatives, and friends, as well as to the Party, State, and people of Vietnam for this loss".
