July 20 is the first day that Cuba mourns the passing of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong. All of Cuba's mainstream media outlets have published articles about the passing of a great brother, and friend of the Cuban people.

The daily newspaper Juventud Rebelde on July 25 devoted the entire third page to reporting on the sentiments of the leaders of the Party, State and people of Cuba towards General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The headline “Cuba commemorates a Vietnamese friend” stands out on the front page of this newspaper.

Taking up the entire front page of the newspaper, in an article titled “The deepest gratitude to a Vietnamese brother”, Juventud Rebelde, the voice of Cuban youth, reported that First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the highest leaders of the Party and Government of this country paid tribute to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong at the Vietnamese Embassy in Havana early in the morning of July 24.

The articles "An irreparable loss for Cuba", "Vietnam loses a world-class leader" and many other news and articles about the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong were published on the front pages of online newspapers such as Grama, Prensa Latina, CAN, Cubadebate, Radiorebelde, Radiohc, Cubasi and Radioreloj.

The articles also quoted the condolences sent by General Raúl Castro Ruz and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to President To Lam.

"The passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is an irreparable loss for Cuba, the country will always remember him as a great brother, a tireless promoter of the special friendship between the two Parties, National Assemblies, Governments and peoples of our two countries," said Cuban leaders.

"Our friend Nguyen Phu Trong will be remembered by the next generations of Cuban people as a pillar in our long-standing friendship and a great brother, always ready to unite in the most complex challenges," they said.

The daily Juventud Rebelde recalled General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visits to Cuba, especially his trip to Santiago de Cuba in March 2018 to commemorate his friend and historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

In its newspaper published on July 25, Juventud Rebelde reported that Politburo member and President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández visited Vietnam to attend the State Funeral.

On behalf of Cuban leader Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and all Cuban people, he sent his most sincere condolences.

Like many other high-ranking Cuban leaders, President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández has many personal memories of his "beloved brother and comrade Nguyen Phu Trong."

During discussions with Vietnamese leaders, Esteban Lazo Hernández repeatedly affirmed, “As brothers, Cuba feels this pain as its own loss.”
