Cuban Minister of Construction Visits Vietnam

Vietnam appreciates Cuba's prestige, experience, and strength in the field of construction, said Politburo member and Defence Minister General Phan Van Giang while receiving Cuban Minister of Construction René Antonio Mesa Villafana in Hanoi on March 28, reported VNA Monday.
Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence decided to select the Cuban ministry’s DINVAI company to supervise its Truong Son Dong road project, Giang noted, adding that the sides have so far cooperated well to ensure the project’s progress and quality.
The official requested the Cuban ministry direct the company to select suitable and experienced staff serving the project toward its scheduled completion in 2025.
Giang stated his ministry will create best conditions possible for the sides to fulfill their assigned missions and study the possibilities to expand bilateral collaboration in the construction sector in line with the countries’ laws and regulations and international practices.
Highlighting the nations’ special traditional friendship cultivated by generations of their leaders and people, the Vietnamese minister said the ties now become an iconic exemplary relationship of the times.
He took the occasion to thank the Cuban Government for its assistance given to Vietnam in response to the Covid-19 pandemic despite Cuba’s difficulties, considering it a testament to the special friendship between the two countries.
For his part, René Antonio Mesa Villafana thanked the Vietnamese ministry for creating conditions for Cuba to participate in its Truong Son Dong road project.
He also expressed the willingness to join the ministry’s other projects in the near future.

On the same day, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi had a working session with Cuban Minister of Construction, reported Xay Dung (Construction) newspaper.
Nghi emphasized that the visiting of Cuban Minister to Vietnam as an opportunity for the two sides to exchange ideas to the signed agreements and commitments in the Minutes of the 39th meeting of the Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernmental Committee.
The cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba in the field of construction, although facing many difficulties, the two sides still made efforts in implementing cooperation agreements between enterprises of the two countries, actively implementing cooperation agreements that previously signed.
The Cuban minister expressed his belief that the two construction ministries would create favorable conditions for businesses to carry out specific cooperation activities and build many new projects in Vietnam and Cuba. The Cuban minister hoped that the two sides would come up with specific solutions in shortening working procedures to help businesses of the two countries.
Also during the meeting, the Cuban Minister discussed with his counterpart about specific cooperation issues between the two countries related to the real estate market, housing construction technology, housing development, design and construction engineering.
Nghi affirmed that the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam ready to exchange information and share experiences on State management of the construction industry, especially in the fields of housing and urban development, construction investment management, and building materials with the Cuban Ministry of Construction.
Enterprises of the two sides will continue to cooperate closely to effectively implement investment and business cooperation projects in Cuba and Vietnam, he added.

Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho on March 28 also received and worked with the Cuban Minister of Construction on strengthening cooperation in transport infrastructure development, according to Giao Thong (Transport) newspaper.
Regarding opportunities for cooperation in upcoming transport infrastructure projects, Tho said that the Vietnamese Government is currently implementing a project to build a North-South expressway in the East in the 2021-2025 period. and other transport infrastructure projects in the fields of aviation, maritime, waterway, high-speed railway.
“The Ministry of Transport believes in the capacity and welcomes Cuban businesses to participate in traffic works and projects in Vietnam. The Ministry of Transport hopes that the Cuban side will strengthen cooperation and support other transport infrastructure development projects such as seaports and airports," Tho said.
At the end of the working session, the two sides agreed to enhance information exchange, close coordination and support to promote cooperation in transport infrastructure development.
