Cultural Activities Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Vietnam-Italy Diplomatic Ties

At the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, director general Nguyen Phuong Hoa and International Cooperation Department received Antonio Alessandro, Italian ambassador to Vietnam on February 10. They discussed the strengthening of cultural cooperation between Vietnam and Italy, towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1973-2023).

Ambassador Antonio Alessandro said that in 2022, the Italian Embassy in Vietnam will organize a number of unique cultural activities such as the Exhibition on World-famous Sculptor Antonio Canova at the Hanoi Museum, film festival, and some other activities to introduce Italian culture, art and technology to Vietnamese.

Casa Italia will continue to organize periodic activities to introduce Italian culture, art, cuisine, and language. The Italian Cultural Institute will also send staff to Vietnam, including a leadership position, supporting to increase operating funding for Casa Italia in the near future.

Nguyen Phuong Hoa, director general of International Cooperation Department welcomed the initiative of the Ambassador as well as the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam and Casa Italia in introducing the culture-art, country and people of Italy in Vietnam

She appreciates Italy - the country of unique architectures, works of art, and the country that owns the most world heritages recognized by UNESCO.

Regarding the change of leadership position at Casa Italia, Nguyen Phuong Hoa suggested that Italy strictly comply with the provisions of Decree 126/2018/ND-CP dated September 20, 2018 of the Government on the establishment and operation of foreign cultural institutions in Vietnam.

In 2022-2023, Ambassador Antonio Alessandro said that a number of high-ranking Italian delegations will visit and work in Vietnam. Specific cooperation plans and proposals will also be jointly implemented by the two countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Italy wishes to foster the partnership, in-depth, substantive cooperation between the cultural agencies and institutions of the two countries.

In the field of museums - the strength of Italy, museums in Rome (Italy) propose to cooperate, exchange expertise, coordinate the organization of exhibitions and events with the Hanoi Museum.

In the field of cinema, the Rome Lazio Film Commission is expected to visit and work with Vietnamese agencies and units in 2022.

In scientific research, Italy suggests that Vietnam continue to strengthen cooperation and exchange between agencies of the two countries.

Italy wishes to foster the partnership, in-depth, substantive cooperation between the cultural agencies and institutions of the two countries.

Within the framework of multilateral cooperation, the two sides discussed in detail about the activities of the Italian and Vietnamese exhibitors at the World Expo 2020 Dubai - one of the largest cultural events in the world, with the participation of 192 countries.

The two countries agreed that EXPO 2020 Dubai, taking place until March 31, 2022 in Dubai, is an opportunity to introduce the country and people. It also strengthens Vietnam-Italy bilateral cooperation and relationships between the two countries with other countries and partners in the region and in the world.

On this occasion, Ambassador Antonio Alessandro said that the Italian Government decided to nominate Rome as a candidate city to host EXPO 2030 along with a number of other countries such as Russia and the RoK.

Italy has provided information about Rome's preparations and confirmed Italy is ready for EXPO - one of the biggest events on the planet.

Nguyen Phuong Hoa, director general, International Cooperation Department, suggested the Italian Embassy in Vietnam continue to contact Italian authorities to provide Vietnam more information. This is for Vietnam to develop a specific report and submit it to the authorities for consideration.
