Da Nang Helps Laos' Xekong Province Train High-Quality Human Resources

Welcoming the delegates, Secretary of the Party Committee and Governor of Xekong province, Leklay Sivilay expressed his pleasure to welcome Da Nang’s leaders to Sekong Province, and he highlighted the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Xekong province and Da Nang, and Laos – Vietnam as a whole.
He also expressed his delight at fruitful outcomes from the bilateral cooperation programs in such aspects as education, health care, and trade, significantly contributing to driving the province's growth.
Leklay Sivilay took the opportunity to ask for more support from Da Nang to train human resources at the bachelor, master, and doctoral level, create a socio-economic development plan, and encourage its businesses to pour money into Xekong province’s projects, especially in agriculture, as well as facilitate Xekong province to export its coal by sea through Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port.
Secretary Nguyen Van Quang affirmed that the visit by Da Nang’s leaders on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Treaty, and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos, aims to strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two localities.
The Da Nang Party Chief affirmed that the government and people of Da Nang, and those of Vietnam at large, have given the top priority to nurturing the bilateral traditional friendship and special solidarity between Da Nang and Xekong Province, and Vietnam and Laos as a whole. He also highly appreciated the results of bilateral cooperation between the two localities.
Quang also agreed on the contents of the bilateral cooperative program for the 2023-2027 period, emphasizing that Da Nang will help Xekong province train high-quality human resources, and special attention will be paid to boosting bilateral cooperation in agriculture and fisheries.
Leaders of Da Nang and Xekong province signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the 2023-2027 period. Under the agreement, Da Nang will grant annually full scholarships to some students and government officials of Xekong province to study education programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.

On the same day, representatives of the Lao and Vietnamese governments have officially handed over Laos - Vietnam Friendship Secondary School to the administration of Lamam district in southern Xekong province.
In an article published on July 6, the Vientiane Times reported that the VND-10-billion (nearly USD 428,000) school project was funded by the administration and people of the central city of Da Nang.
The two-story school has seven classrooms fully equipped with educational equipment and materials, an office for teachers, and 10 toilets, it said.
The new school will provide a good educational environment, helping Laos not only promote educational reform but also improve the quality of human resources, importantly contributing to strengthening the traditional relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
In his remarks at the inauguration ceremony, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh asked the school to maximize its efficiency in a bid to bring great benefits to the Vietnamese community in Xekong province, and all local people as a whole.
Also on Monday, Da Nang's leaders visited the Vietnamese Language Center in Xekong province. During his visit to this venue, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh praised the Center for its efforts in teaching the Vietnamese language for Lao government officials and employees and the Vietnamese community in Xekong province despite the short period of operation.
The Da Nang leader took the opportunity to urge the center’s staff to continue their efforts to promote studies of the Vietnamese language in Laos.
Within the framework of the visit by Da Nang’s leaders, they donated 30 tablets devices to the government of Xekong province and its departments and agencies, supported VND 500 million (USD 21.300) in cash for social work and social welfare in the province, presented 3 laptops and 10 tablets to the Friendship High School, and gave 2 laptops and 10 tablets to the Vietnamese Language Center in the province.
According to the Vientiane Times, in 2016, the authorities of Xekong and Da Nang signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in projects related to economic development, education-training, agriculture, transport and human resource development in the 2018-2022 period. Cooperation between the two localities has contributed to celebrating the Laos - Vietnam Year of Friendship and Solidarity 2022, the 60th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations and 45 years of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries. The newspaper said the cooperative relationship between Laos and Vietnam covers all fields, especially in education and human resources development. Over the past 10 years, more than 50,000 Lao citizens have studied in universities or short-term training courses in Vietnam, significantly contributing to Laos’s development process, it noted. |
