In his opening remarks, President of the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organization Nguyen Ngoc Binh highlighted that in 2024, the Union, its member organizations, and relevant local agencies successfully coordinated to organize numerous activities promoting peace, solidarity, friendship, development cooperation, external communication, engagement with overseas Vietnamese, and mobilization of non-governmental aid.

These initiatives were diverse, effective, and practical, significantly contributing to strengthening solidarity and cooperative relationships between the people of Da Nang and international friends. Additionally, these efforts helped to promote Da Nang as a dynamic, creative city with lots of opportunities and potential for cooperation while mobilizing resources to support the city's socio-economic development.

According to the report presented at the conference, Da Nang organized significant people-to-people diplomatic events in 2024, including the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Volunteer Soldiers and Military Experts in Laos; the 2024 National Chinese Speech Contest; a cultural exchange program introducing Vietnamese and Indian cultures; the publication of the bilingual poetry collection "Spring Flowers"; and the International Yoga Day program themed “Yoga for a world of peace and friendship.”

The Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations also served as an organizer of major events such as the 2024 Vietnam-Japan Festival; the 2024 Vietnam-Korea Festival in Da Nang; a series of activities for the 2024 Francophone Cultural Exchange; the German Beer Festival and cultural and culinary exchanges; the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Gathering in 2024; and the international seminar "Women and Innovative Startups."

In the field of foreign non-governmental affairs, the Union facilitated the city in mobilizing and receiving 53 aid projects with a total value of VND 133 billion. These projects focused on humanitarian assistance, healthcare, education, environmental protection, and support for vulnerable groups.

The notable programs and projects include mobilizing support for 50 scholarships for 50 underprivileged students and 20 gift packages comprising essential supplies, valued at VND 15 million, for disadvantaged households in Son Tra District; coordinating with the Lifestart Foundation to provide medical equipment, fresh milk, plastic chairs, and children's books for the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital, with a total value exceeding VND 1.8 billion; and facilitating the construction of a new school to replace a dilapidated one in Seponh District, Savannakhet Province, Laos, with a budget exceeding VND 1.7 billion.

The Union’s website published over 250 articles, including more than 100 in English, and collaborated with the Da Nang Radio and Television Station to produce a documentary titled “Promoting the Role of People-to-people Diplomacy for Da Nang's Development." Additionally, it worked with Da Nang Newspaper to promote the results of its people-to-people diplomacy efforts from 2019 to 2024 and outline future directions.

In his directive speech, Ho Ky Minh commended the Union’s achievements in 2024 and outlined four key focuses for people-to-people diplomacy in 2025:

First, continue organizing key events such as the Final Round of the National Chinese Speech Contest Finals and the International Yoga Festival while expanding people-to-people diplomatic activities with countries like the US, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.

Second, the Union must strengthen internal resources, reduce reliance on the state budget, and encourage businesses to participate in people-to-people diplomatic initiatives amid structural reforms.

Third, research and propose new policies to replace outdated regulations, such as Decision No. 8828/QD-UBND (dated November 17, 2010), and align with Decree No. 126/2024/ND-CP (dated October 8, 2024) of the Government concerning the organization, activities, and management of associations.

Fourth, incorporate training programs on people-to-people diplomacy into annual plans to update the knowledge and expertise of personnel, enabling them to perform their duties more effectively.

At the conference, awards and commendations were presented by the Presidium of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Da Nang, and the Chairman of the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations to outstanding collectives and individuals.
