President To Lam will pay a state visit to Laos and Cambodia from July 11 to 13, 2024. What is the meaning of this special business trip of the President?

Accepting the invitation of Thoonglun Sisulith, President of Laos and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, President To Lam will pay a state visit to Laos and Cambodia from July 11 to 13, 2024.

This is President To Lam's first overseas business trip since taking office. The President's visit to Laos and Cambodia on this first business trip is of great significance.

It represents an important message of the Party and State of Vietnam as well as of the President personally. That is, the Party and State of Vietnam always value and give highest priority to the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, and the good relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

This is also a message affirming the solidarity and close bond between the three countries. Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have geographical proximity, historical and cultural connections, and the three leading parties in the three countries have a common origin, which is the Indochinese Communist Party.

The people of the three countries have also shown solidarity and sacrificed blood for the cause of national liberation, unification and development as it is today.

The visit will mark a new stage of development in Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia relations on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, effective cooperation, and respect for each other's interests.

It contributes to strengthening strategic trust, deepening relations, and strengthening solidarity between Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia and ASEAN.

How do you evaluate Vietnam's relations with the two countries and the highlights in the relationship with each country?

Relations between Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia are developing well and comprehensively on a foundation of increasing trust and attachment. Party cooperation plays a core role, orienting and leading the strong development of relations.

Defense and security cooperation between Vietnam and Laos and Cambodia is increasingly becoming a solid pillar of cooperation, making an important contribution to maintaining stability, security, politics and society in each country, especially in border areas.

Vietnam, and Laos, Cambodia are all steadfast in the principle of not allowing hostile forces to use one country's territory to carry out acts of sabotage against the other country.

The three countries are promoting important cooperation mechanisms such as the annual conference between the three Ministers of Public Security/Home Affairs, the annual meeting between the three Defense Ministers and the joint rescue exercise between the three armies.

Economic, investment and trade cooperation continues to progress more effectively.

Economic cooperation in border areas develops dynamically. This not only increases the cohesion between the three countries but also makes an important contribution to improving the lives of people in the border areas between Vietnam-Laos, Vietnam-Cambodia as well as between the three countries.

Vietnam continues to be one of Laos' largest investors and trade partners, and currently has 255 valid investment projects in Laos with a total capital of US$5.5 billion.

Vietnam is currently Cambodia's third-largest trading partner, and Cambodia's largest in ASEAN.

Vietnam currently has 205 valid investment projects in Cambodia with a total registered capital of US$2.94 billion, ranking first in ASEAN, and among the five countries with the largest direct investment in Cambodia. Laos and Cambodia are both top countries among the 79 countries and territories in which Vietnam invests abroad.

The visit will certainly create new momentum, to develop the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, and the good relations, traditional friendship, comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

It also promotes cooperation in multilateral frameworks such as in ASEAN, Mekong sub-region cooperation mechanisms and the United Nations.
