Dong Nai Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association Established

The founding congress of the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association in Dong Nai province, term was organized on Nov. 5.
This is the first congress of the multilateral friendship association of Dong Nai province.
Previously, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province issued Decision No. 2578/QD-UBND dated July 29, 2021 allowing the establishment of the Provincial Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association.
Speaking at the congress, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang said the establishment of the Provincial Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association was an important event promoting the province's multilateral cooperation, and the priorities that ASEAN countries have for Vietnam in many fields.
Improving Dong Nai people's understanding of tradition and history Vietnam - ASEAN friendship and cooperation relationship has really become a bridge to develop people-to-people exchange between the people of Dong Nai and ASEAN countries.
According to Hoang, six regional countries are now investing in Dong Nai: Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, with 150 projects and investment of over USD 5.32 billion, focusing on real estate, infrastructure of industrial parks and industrial production.
Meanwhile, companies in the province export over 50 types of goods to nine countries in the bloc, mostly textiles, footwear, machinery and equipment and spare parts and electronic components.
Exports to ASEAN have risen steadily over the years, reaching nearly USD 1.57 billion in 2016, over USD 1.81 billion in 2018, and some USD 2.1 billion in 2019.
In addition, in recent years, Dong Nai enterprises have also imported many raw materials for industrial production and consumer goods from ASEAN such as chemicals, iron and steel, machinery and equipment, textiles, and food, electric products.
In the field of people-to-people exchanges, from 2009 to now, Dong Nai province has set up Vietnam - Laos, Vietnam - Cambodia, and Vietnam - Thailand friendship associations.
With these favorable foundations, the establishment of the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association will become a bridge fostering friendships with individuals from those countries and encouraging the involvement of citizens and organisations from all walks of life.

Speaking at the congress, Tran Thi Thu Thuy, Chief of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Southern Representative Office sent her congratulations to the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association in Dong Nai.
Thuy said that in the coming time, with the cooperation of the Consulate General of ASEAN countries in Vietnam, the ASEAN Community will become stronger; the exchange between Vietnam and each ASEAN countries in particular and the bloc will develop in depth.
Sok Dareth, Consul General of the Kingdom of Cambodia representing the Consulate Generals of ASEAN countries in Ho Chi Minh City, congratulated the newly-established association as Cambodia is the ASEAN rotating Chair for 2022.
The congress elected the Executive Board of the association, term 2021-2026, including 21 members, led by Mai Van Nhon as chairman.
The Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association of Dong Nai province took the occasion to award five scholarships to students of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam who are studying at universities in the province,each worth VND 5 million.
The Union of Friendship Organizations of Dong Nai also presented original hand-painted portraits of Consul Generals, drew by the new Chairman Mai Van Nhon. The works hold special meaning, as well as the feelings the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association wants to convey to the Consul Generals of ASEAN countries in HCM City.
The 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, which were held via video-conference, concluded on Oct. 28 after three days of sitting under the chair of Brunei Darussalam - Chair of ASEAN 2021. Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended 14 out of 17 major activities, including the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits, and ASEAN Summits with the Republic of Korea, China, the US, Japan, Australia, India, Russia, the ASEAN 3 Summit and the 16th East Asia Summit. At these meetings, PM Chinh delivered important speeches, focusing on key issues and emerging challenges faced by ASEAN, including Covid-19 response, post-pandemic economic recovery, the Bien Dong Sea and Myanmar issues, building the post-2025 ASEAN Community Vision and promoting ASEAN’s role in sub-regional cooperation. The leaders of the ASEAN and partner nations announced, adopted and took note of about 100 documents, including declarations, strategies, cooperation frameworks, plans of action, reports and vision papers in fields under three pillars of regional cooperation. Brunei transferred the ASEAN Chairmanship 2022 to Cambodia. |
