On April 7, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the two provinces Dong Thap (Vietnam) and Prey Veng (Kingdom of Cambodia) for the year 2022 was held at the Prey Veng Provincial Governor's Office.

Mr. Pham Thien Nghia - Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee said that signing a cooperation agreement between the two provinces is the key component of the socio-economic development of Dong Thap province.

Since 2019, the two provinces have implemented the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation. The new point of the MoU in 2022 is that both sides support vehicles of all kinds to access roads, parks, and river docks on both sides of the border.

Up to now, the authorities and people of the two provinces have had many outstanding activities, joint ventures, and promoted traditional friendship, solidarity, and a sense of mutual understanding for common development.

The two sides always maintain information exchange and support each other in border protection and management activities, cooperate in political security, social order and safety in border areas; in the prevention and control of Covid-19 epidemic.

These activities has always been maintained and achieved positive results. The Prey Veng government has actively supported and helped the Vietnamese community living in Prey Veng province to get vaccinated against the disease.

Regarding commercial activities, exchange and purchase in the border areas of the two provinces remained in smooth operation, followed by the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic to help the two provinces' socio-economic stability and development.

As a result, the first two months of 2022, the total import and export turnover of goods crossing the border between the two provinces reached more than US $500 million, and the trade balance at Thuong Phuoc border gate increased more than $21 million USD.

Regarding education, Dong Thap province always creates favorable conditions, supports and encourages students from Prey Veng province and other provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia to come study. The Vietnamese side always provide medical equipment and food to help Prey Veng provincial government in the prevention and control of the spread of SARS-CoV-2, supporting people in need in Prey Veng province, especially in the border area.

For future cooperation, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province suggested Prey Veng province to pay attention, promote and disseminate the law enforcement, at the same time provide guidance and create favorable conditions for immigrants from Vietnam is living in Prey Veng so that they can carry out the obligation of residence, solving problems related to legal documents; ensure the legitimate rights and interests of the people, the children's right to study in public schools; supporting and creating conditions for people living on floating houses and fishing rafts to come ashore, helping people overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives...

In response, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee - Pham Thien Nghia also wished that the two sides would deeply analyze existing problems, share experiences and new solutions, and strive to build a good relationship between the two provinces and create practical benefits to the people.
