Expert Suggests Multifaceted Approaches For Enhancing Vietnam - Austria Cooperation
Dr. Patrick Horvath shared that Austria is not only seeking workforces in common industries such as agriculture, nursing, services but also in sciences and automobile industry. The country has a high demand of human resources due to the aging population. This can be a good opportunity for Vietnam and Austria to develop cooperation in education and training to provide a qualified workforce.
Horvath praised young and dynamic Vietnamese human resources and recommended the youth to explore diverse education opportunities in Austria.
"When thinking about education systems in Austria, people automatically recognized prestigious universities like the University of Vienna but there are many colleges in the countryside and other provinces. I think if Vietnamese people can get the scholarships to study in these places, that would also be good opportunities," said Dr. Horvath.

According to the Austrian expert, diplomatic relations with Vietnam always receive special attention not only from high-level leaders but also from the public in Austria. During the resistance war for independence before 1975 in Vietnam, many Austrian actively participated in the international movement calling for peace and opposing war such as Former Prime Minister Bruno Kreisky (1911-1990), Colonel Ernst Frey (1915-1994), and poet Erich Fried (1921-1988). One of them, Ernst Frey (Vietnamese name: Nguyen Dan) was an Austrian soldier who fought side by side with General Vo Nguyen Giap.
Currently, Vietnam - Austria diplomatic relations have gained new momentum thanks to COVID-19 vaccine diplomacy as well as the recent high-level visits of Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg to Vietnam in April 2023 and Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong's visit to Austria in July 2023. Both sides strongly value international peace, support the global order, strengthen multilateral systems, and support the United Nations and regional institutions.
The host - Dr. Tran Tuan Anh, Chairman of the Vietnam - Austria Friendship Association (VAFA) highly appreciated the recommendations made by Austrian scholar. Both VAFA and Dr. Horvath agreed to continue their activities as the bridges to promote cooperation through regular and effective information exchange. These activities will contribute to strengthening the friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation between the two peoples.
