Pa Khoang Lake is located in two communes Muong Phang and Pa Khoang (Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien province). It is a reservoir with a design capacity of 41 million m3, which makes it the largest lake in Dien Bien province.

In addition to ensuring irrigation for 5,000 ha of Muong Thanh field with 2 rice crops, Pa Khoang Lake regulates the climate, limits the harmful effects of rain and flood, and stores water for two hydroelectric projects named Thac Bay and Na Loi. With the advantage of diverse vegetation, the forest around the lake is rich in various kinds of animals and species of flora and fauna in the lake bed.

In the Thai language, Pa Khoang means “bamboo forest.” In the past, around this beautiful lake, many bamboo trees were growing. Today, this lake has become a beautiful destination in Dien Bien.

With a large surface area of 400 to 600ha, Pa Khoang displays charming scenery of pretty stilt houses mirrored in the transparent water upon which some small boats slowly glide across. Pa Khoang Reservoir offers favorable conditions for a combination of eco-tourism and outdoor activities.

This lake has a cool temperature all year round, only about 28 degrees Celsius, so it is very suitable for ecotourism activities. Visitors can come here in the direction of Highway 279 into Muong Phang commune.

Visiting Pa Khoang Lake in Dien Bien, visitors will experience riding a boat around the lake. Small boats will take them through the waves to large and small islands, exploring the beautiful and fresh natural world. In the winter, the surface is covered with a layer of mist like a dreamlike and fanciful watercolor painting. In the early morning, tourists can take a lot of impressive photos while exploring this lake.
