This is the first time the national foreign affairs conference has been held, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung said.
It is of significance to realise the 13th National Party Congress Resolution, assess the achievements in the past 35 years of renewing the country’s foreign affairs, look back on lessons, and identify arising issues, he told Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
According to Trung, the national foreign affairs conference will set out specific orientations, directions and strategies for agencies, ministries and branches in this field, and discuss measures to promote the effectiveness of coordination between agencies and localities, and between Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy.
Regarding Vietnam's foreign policy of independence and self-reliance for peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralisation, diversification and comprehensive international integration, Trung emphasised that the country has achieved many positive results in its extensive international integration process.

By maintaining an environment of peace, Vietnam has taken advantage of favourable conditions for socio-economic and cultural development, and handled challenges, including traditional and non-traditional security challenges.
Trung stated that Vietnam advocates expanding the Party's external relations, firstly with neighbouring countries to create a political foundation and orientation for relations in all aspects, as well as with other political parties, ruling parties and those participating in political life in countries, to gain political support for State relations and people-to-people diplomacy.
The 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) wrapped up on February 1 after nearly eight working days, with its resolution adopted at the closing session, Nhan dan (People) newspaper said.
The resolution stated that the congress agreed on the basic assessments of the implementation outcomes of the 12th National Party Congress’s resolution, the 1991 Platform on National Construction during the Transitional Period towards Socialism, the 1991 Platform, the 35 years of “Doi moi” (Renewal) policy, along with national development tasks for the time ahead as noted in the documents submitted by the 12th-tenure Party Central Committee to the 13th congress.

The resolution said the achievements of 35 years of “Doi moi” and 30 years of implementing the 1991 Platform have continued to affirm that the path to socialism in Vietnam matches the reality in the country and the development trend of the era, and that the Party’s clear-sighted leadership is the leading factor determining the success of Vietnam’s revolution.
Amid fast and complicated developments in the global situation, the Party’s Platform remains “the flag of ideology, the flag of combat, the flag gathering the great national solidarity” for the goal of rich people, strong nation and an equitable, democratic, and civilised nation.
The resolution underlined the overall goals and concrete targets for 2025, 2030, and 2045; and identified major socio-economic development targets for 2021- 2025, orientations for national development for 2021-2030, and the six key tasks for the 13th tenure.
