Vietnamnet cited the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) that the tropical depression in southeastern Philippines has strengthened into a storm, the first of 2021 on the Pacific Ocean. The storm name is Dujuan.

Before entering the Bien Dong Sea (East Sea), Dujuan may reach level 9-10, but after passing the Philippines, it may weaken to level 7-8 when it enters the Bien Dong Sea.

After entering the Bien Dong Sea, the storm is forecasted to move towards the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago) and gradually weaken. The impact of this storm may be strong winds of level 7-8 and thunderstorms, which could affect vessels in the Bien Dong Sea.

Right now, Dujuan slightly weakened before dawn on Saturday (February 20) but heavy rain is still likely in areas in its path, repoterd Rappler.

In a bulletin issued on early Saturday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Dujuan now has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gustiness of up to 90 km/h.

On Friday evening, February 19, Dujuan had maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h and gustiness of up to 105 km/h. It previously reached severe tropical storm category on Friday morning, then weakened back into a tropical storm in the afternoon.

Nevertheless, this storm will likely weaken considerably due to significant terrain interaction and persistent vertical wind shear during this passage over the archipelago and may reach tropical depression category on Monday.

The storm is likely to weaken and dissolve in the Bien Dong Sea, so it is unlikely to affect the mainland./.
