The capital Hanoi has seen a 25% increase in the number of foreign tourist arrivals to the city in the first quarter of 2016, a sudden growth compared to the past few years.

Accordingly, the capital received more than one million foreign tourists from the beginning of the year, reported the municipal Department of Tourism. In addition, Hanoi provided services for nearly 4.6 million domestic tourists, a year-on-year rise of 7%.

On total, the city welcomed more than 5.6 million tourists in the three months, grossing revenue of over VND16 trillion, a 13% rise over a year earlier.

The impressive growth came from upgraded tourism infrastructure, improved service quality, a focus on the quality and quantity of tourism products, and socialized and persified types of investment, reported the department.

In addition, the municipal tourism sector focused on popularizing and promoting tourism at key markets with numerous abundant and attractive products, thus, Hanoi’s image in international markets has been increasingly enhanced.

From now to the end of 2016, the department will call upon strategic investors to participate in developing tourism around West Lake, Red River and its two banks and investing in a special tourism zone in Dong Anh.

The department will focus on forming complete tourism products, including Dong Anh in combination with Co Loa spiritual tourism, Dao Thuc water puppetry and hi-tech agricultural tourism products; the centre of the Ba Dinh political area linking with the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long and Temple of Literature (Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam); and the Ba Dinh area and surrounding spots such as Duong Lam Ancient Village, Van Phuc Silk Village, Thuong Tin Craft Village and Bat Trang Pottery Village./.
