French Volunteers Build House for Southern Vietnamese Minority Groups
Earlier this month, thanks to the fund of 80 million VND (about US $3,400) given by LEDD/France and Dinh Quan district, Dang Sinh Hai (Dao ethnic minority, Thanh Son commune, Dinh Quan district, Dong Nai province) and his family realized a life-long dream of having a spacious home to settle down.
The French students of the LEDD organization also came to Hai's home to help build the house. They supported the family by transporting bricks and sand, making cement paste, and so on. The presence of the volunteer group gave Hai and his family new motivation to start a new chapter of their lives.

There are currently 7 friendship houses for disadvantaged ethnic minority families in Thanh Son Commune, Dinh Quan District (Dong Nai) being simultaneously built in Hamlet 5, and Hamlet 6 of the commune to speed up the construction progress to help these families have a stable living conditions in their own houses.
Although staying for a short time, the French students had unforgettable experiences with the rustic life and the enthusiasm and hospitality of Vietnamese people. One of the volunteers, Clementine Chaux, said that interacting with friendly local people and enjoying new food left a great impression.

This is an activity within the framework of the project "Building 7 Friendship Houses" for ethnic minorities who still have difficulty in housing in Thanh Son commune, Dinh Quan district (Dong Nai). The estimated construction cost is over 570 million VND. The support from LEDD/France organization is reported to be 432 million VND, the rest is from the fund for the poor in Dinh Quan district. The objective of the project is to help ethnic minority people remove cottage, unstable and temporary houses, reduce the burden of housing difficulties so that ethnic minorities can feel secure about accommodation and community, reduce poverty; support daily activities for them to live and work with peace of mind. |
