Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Laos National Assembly Chairman Xaysomphone Phomvihane in Hanoi on December 7, saying his visit to Vietnam would help promote the special friendship and relationship between the two countries.

He congratulated Laos on its achievements in national development as well as its successful organization of the 11th national congress of the Laos People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and the election of the IX National Assembly this year.

Vietnam strongly and comprehensively supports Laos’ renovation and believes under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the Lao people will continue to record new and greater achievements in national development, successfully realizing the Resolution adopted at the 11th Party Congress, said Trong.

He highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the two countries’ National Assemblies over the past time and said the two bodies should strengthen experience sharing in lawmaking, supervision, and decision-making on key national issues, VOV reported.

The Vietnamese Party leader suggested that the two National Assemblies support their Governments, ministries, and localities in effectively implementing signed cooperation programs while backing each other at multilateral and inter-parliamentary forums.

He also suggested that the two sides coordinate well in organizing activities in various appropriate forms to celebrate the Vietnam - Laos Year of Solidarity and Friendship in 2022.

At the meeting, both host and guest expressed their delight that the special bilateral relations, set up by late Presidents Ho Chi Minh, Kaysone Phomvihane, and Souphanouvong and nurtured by generations of the countries’ Party and State leaders, have been unceasingly solidified and developing in a substantive and effective manner in all fields, generating practical benefits for the two peoples.

They also committed all-out efforts to maintain, nurture, and pass down the sound Vietnam - Laos relations to future generations.

The two leaders shared the view that their countries’ specialties are a priceless common asset of the two Parties and peoples, a vital relationship, an important resource for the national development and safeguarding in each nation, and also an active contribution to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development, VNA reported.

For his part, the Lao NA Chairman Xaysomphone Phomvihane respectfully conveyed the greetings of CPRP General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

He briefed his host on the results of his talks with Vietnam NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and affirmed that the Lao NA will closely coordinate with its Vietnamese counterpart to effectively implement agreements reached between the two countries’ top Party and State leaders, as well as the cooperation agreement between the two legislative bodies.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh and Vice Chairman of the Lao National Assembly (NA) Sommad Pholsena had a meeting in Hanoi. The Lao guest is accompanying NA Chairman Xaysomphone Phomvihane during an official visit to Vietnam from December 6 to 8.

Sommad Pholsena thanked the Vietnamese Party, State, and people for consistently supporting and assisting his country in socio-economic development. In particular, he noted, they helped Laos build a new NA building which was put into operation last August. The Vice-Chairman, who is also head of the steering committee for the Lao NA building project, expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue cooperating with and helping his country to operate this building. He also suggested the commendation of collectives and individuals with considerable contributions to this project.

Deputy PM Thanh said this building is critically important to bilateral cooperation and serves as a symbol of the countries’ special solidarity, noting that Vietnam will keep helping Laos with the building operation and maintenance. The Vietnamese Ministry of Construction has also been asked to continue working closely with the Lao side to complete procedures and reward those with substantial contributions to the project, the host official added.
