For the diplomatic sector, 2021 can be viewed as a year full of many special events and milestones reflected domestically, globally, and particularly in the diplomatic sector, Son said, as cited by VOV.
The diplomatic sector has successfully completed its tasks and made remarkable contributions to the country’s Covid-19 fight.
Last year witnessed the 13th National Party Congress, an important political event that sketched out a strategic vision on national defence and development until the middle of the 21st century, the Vietnamese diplomat stated.
The important decisions set out during the course of the congress serve as a great source of momentum for the entire political system and people, he stressed.

Furthermore, 2021 marked the first-ever National Conference on Foreign Affairs, along with the 31st Diplomatic Conference and the 20th National Conference on Local Diplomacy which was held with the aim of implementing guidelines on external affairs adopted at the 13th National Party Congress and conclusions made at the National Conference on Foreign Affairs.
Reviewing the various achievements recorded by the diplomatic sector in 2021, FM Son said it had further contributed to promoting the image of Vietnam as a nation of independence, self-reliance, innovation, and dynamism boasting rich characters and traditions, as well as being a faithful friend and a reliable partner.
Amid the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, the diplomatic sector has sought ways to carry out activities in all aspects, he said.
Son highlighted the strong development of relations between the nation and global partners, especially its neighbours, traditional friends, and strategic and comprehensive partners.
Leaders of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, ministries, and agencies also participated in major multilateral regional and international events and activities, whilst making active and responsible contributions to international affairs.
The minister attributed the numerous achievements to the leadership of the Party, the instruction of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, the flexible and effective management of the Government, in addition to the direct engagement in external activities of Party, State, Government, and NA leaders.
The power of the diplomatic sector has been formed through close coordination occurring between Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy, along with between diplomacy and national defence and security, as well as the support of people and businesses, he said.
With regard to continued global uncertainties, the FM underlined the necessity of the diplomatic sector continuing to follow principles whilst pursuing targets and staying active in adapting to the new situation in a flexible, creative manner.
