Hagar Vietnam in collaboration with the Women's Union of Yen Bai on February 25 had launched "Building capacity of duty bearers and beneficiaries to improve access to services for women and children survivors of intimate partner violence and non-partner sexual violence and change community’s attitude and behavior towards violence against women” project.
This project is funded by the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UNTF) and will be implemented in Van Chan district.
The meeting had the participation of nearly 50 delegates including representatives of Hagar Vietnam, the Yen Bai Women's Union, and relevant sectoral leaders.
Dang Duy Hien, Vice Chairman of Van Chan District People's Committee shared, “Van Chan is where many ethnic minorities live and this is one of the key areas of human trafficking. There were some complicated cases related to human trafficking happening here. Domestic violence and sexual abuse prevention are also important tasks. We are delighted and pledged to do our best to implement the project, thereby reducing gender violence in the district and improving people's lives.”
The event is marked as a start stage to attain the project's goal which is to help women and children survivors and those at risk of violence and trafficking in project areas have increased safety, wellbeing and voice.
Yen Bai province is one of the four targeted areas of Hagar in Vietnam, where socio-economic difficulties, and violence against women and children is still happening. Since 2009, Hagar and the provincial Women’s Union have implemented three projects on prevention of GBV, supporting thousands of women and children affected by trauma and violence./.
