Hanoi Climbs up in Global Liveable City Rankings

The Vietnamese capital has moved up 19 notches to 129th position out of 173 cities in the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU)'s liveability ranking this year, making it one of the top five biggest risers, VOV citied CNN.

Accordingly, Hanoi joins the likes of Wellington of New Zealand, Auckland of New Zealand, Perth of Australia, and Bucharest of Romania among the top five cities in the world to make the most significant improvements to their overall livability rankings.
“The removal of Covid-related restrictions has overall boded well for global liveability in 2023,” Upasana Dutt, head of Livability Index at EIU, said in a statement.
“Education has emerged stronger with children returning to schools alongside a significantly reduced burden on hospitals and healthcare systems, with some notable improvements in cities across developing economies of Asia and the Middle East,” she added.
The EIU's index ranks 173 cities in five categories, namely stability, health care, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
Austria, has retained its position as the most liveable city in the world. Denmark's Copenhagen, secured the second spot, while Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, ranked third and fourth, respectively. While Canada's Vancouver occupied the fifth spot.

Recently, Hanoi and Hue have been voted among the 10 winners in the "best cities" category at the 2023 Luxury Awards Asia Pacific given by US travel magazine Travel+Leisure. The others were Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Luang Prabang, Siem Reap, and Taipei.
The Vietnamese capital is famous for its centuries-old temples and architectural landmarks from French colonial times last century.
September-November and March-April are the ideal times to visit the city since the weather is pleasant with mild temperatures.
The nominees were selected by the Travel+Leisure team of editors and expert contributors from across the Asia Pacific, and the winners were chosen based on voting by the public.
Hanoi has been ranked first in the list of the top 20 trending cities for solo travel, according to a report by UK-based adventure travel company Explore Worldwide.
By analysing Google search data from the last two years, the company has determined the places that are seeing the biggest uplift in solo travel online searches.
