On November 14, the Hanoi People's Committee inaugurated the National Action Month for Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response 2024 at the Hanoi Children's Palace.

During the event, Bach Lien Huong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, highlighted the commitment and leadership of the City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee towards gender equality and women's advancement over recent years.

Hanoi has successfully implemented the program to promote equal participation of women in leadership and management roles across all policy-making levels for the period 2021-2030. The targets of the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the same period continue to be pursued by the city's departments, branches, and People's Committees of districts and towns.

During the ceremony, leaders of the Hanoi People's Committee distributed 100 gifts, totaling VND 135 million, to children from disadvantaged families in the districts of Nam Tu Liem, Bac Tu Liem, and Hoai Duc.

Many gender equality indicators have been achieved and even surpassed targets. For instance, over 60% of key leadership positions at all three levels of government are held by women. Additionally, 100% of individuals exposed to domestic and gender-based violence have accessed at least one basic support service. All those affected by non-prosecutable domestic and gender-based violence have received counseling, and 100% of public social assistance facilities have implemented support, prevention, and response activities related to gender-based violence.

The city continues to prioritize social security, ensuring prompt, accurate, and comprehensive implementation in line with Central Government regulations and Hanoi’s specific policies, with a focus on women and children. Efforts in vocational training, job creation, and providing preferential loans for production and business development have been prioritized and executed. As a result, in the first 10 months of 2024, 28,867 female workers received preferential loans from the Policy Bank.

Beyond its general policies, Hanoi also implements specialized programs related to gender equality and women's advancement. These initiatives have provided women in the capital with opportunities to study, progress, and access preferential resources, thereby affirming their roles and positions in all areas of social life.

In response to the National Action Month for Gender Equality and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response 2024, Vice Chairwoman of the Nam Tu Liem District People's Committee, Do Thi Thuy Ha, urged that immediately following the Launching Ceremony, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district, the District Women's Advancement Committee, the People's Committees of wards, and socio-political organizations should promptly implement plans and organize activities to ensure the practicality and effectiveness of this initiative.
