Yoga lovers in Hanoi are invited to the International Day of Yoga held by Embassy of India Hanoi on this weekend June 17th.

Speaking at the press conference announcing the event on this weekend, Mr. Parvathaneni Harish, the Ambassador of India in Vietnam expressed his pleasure at seeing the connection between yoga in Vietnam and India. He also said that the event will highlight the spiritual connection between Indian and Vietnamese yoga lovers in the city. In addition, the annual event, now in its 3rd year, is meant to emulate the first time success by attracting around 5,000 people to come and practice yoga at the same time.

According to Ambassador of India in Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish, Yoga is harmony between yin and yang, man and nature, and male and female. Vietnamese people are clearly aware of this harmony. “In Vietnam, The people always practise out in the open, close to nature. So I think that International Yoga Day, initiated by Indian people, will be warmly welcomed by Vietnamese people”, said Ambassador of India in Vietnam.

As planned, Embassy of India, Hanoi in close partnership with, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Affairs and Hanoi People’s Committee is proposing to organize the 3rd International Day of Yoga to celebrate IDY this year on 2017 June 17th. It also provides an opportunity for Vietnam and India to commemorate 2017 as the Friendship Year which marks 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and 10th anniversary of our Strategic Partnership.

June 21st being a weekday and keeping in mind the popularity of yoga in Vietnam, the Embassy of India in Hanoi has decided to celebrate the third International Day of Yoga on Saturday, 17 June 2017, so that the yoga family of Hanoi can take part in the celebrations, being organized at the Ly Thai To Statue Area, 12 Le Lai Str., Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi. The two-hour programme will start at 7p.m.

The Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh city is separately celebrating the International Day of Yoga on Sunday, 25th June, at the Nguyen Hue Str., District 1, Ho Chi Minh city. After Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city it will move to other southern provinces of Da Nang city, Nha Trang city, Nghe An city and Vinh Phuc province…

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice Having its origin in India, which Aims to transform both body and mind. On December 11 in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.

The declaration came after the call for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga by Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014 wherein he stated: “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition . It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature”.

In Suggesting June 21, Which is the Summer Solstice, as the International Day of Yoga, Narendra Modi had said, “the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world”./.
