HCMC Vietnam - France Friendship Association’s President awarded France’s National Order of Merit

On April 10, the HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations, the HCMC Vietnam - France Friendship Association, and the French Consulate General in HCMC jointly organized the ceremony to present France’s National Order of Merit, Class Officer, to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, President of the HCMC Vietnam - France Friendship Association.

Speaking at the ceremony, the French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Vincent Floreani highly appreciated the learning and working process of Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung. He affirmed that Ms. Dung has made a great scientific discovery, by determining the relationship between the existence of an HPV virus in the mother that can be transmitted to the child and develops in the larynx. She has made great efforts to bring more French postdoctoral students and doctors to Vietnam. During the past 20 years, Ms. Dung has organized many French - Vietnamese seminars on ears, nose, and throat, contributing to forming a large network of French scientists in HCMC.

In 2013, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung was appointed Rector of the Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University. She has made attempts to promote the French language to students. Thus, the French language has been continued to be taught in the medical sector in Ho Chi Minh City.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung expressed her gratitude to Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University, Ho Chi Minh City Medical Association, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam - France Friendship Association for encouraging, supporting, and creating favorable conditions for her to developed her ability to communicate with French colleagues and friends, achieving successes for herself and bringing useful achievements to the health sector as well as developing the Vietnam-France friendship relationship.

With the current role as President of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam - France Friendship Association, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung aspired to coordinate with the Executive Committee to gather people speaking French and love speaking French to work in the fields of politics, culture, health care, and education to jointly carry out people's external relations and friendly exchanges with the French community both at home and abroad.

On this occasion, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam - France Friendship Association also reviewed activities in 2020 and set out the goals of promoting friendly exchanges with French-speaking communities at home and abroad.

In order to consolidate personnel and perform well the assigned tasks, the Union of Friendship Organizations decided to appoint 2 new Vice Presidents of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam - France Friendship Association including Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hiep, Vice President of School Council, Executive Vice-Rector of Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University, and Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lan, Director of the Institute of Cultural Exchange with France (IDECAF) in HCMC.

France’s National Order of Merit is an honorable award established by French President De Gaulle to recognize an outstanding, dedicated, dynamic, and exemplary individual.

Earlier, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Thiep was presented the French State’s National Order of the Legion of Honour, Class Commandeur, at a ceremony held at the French foreign ministry’s headquarters on April 9, reported VNA.

On behalf of the President of France, Bertrand Lortholary, Asia-Oceania Director of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs awarded the noble order to Vietnamese Ambassador to France Nguyen Thiep.

Legion of Honour, officially National Order of the Legion of Honour, French Ordre National de la Légion ’honneur, premier order of the French republic, created by Napoleon Bonaparte, then first consul, on May 19, 1802, as a general military and civil order of merit conferred without regard to birth or religion provided that anyone admitted swears to uphold liberty and equality.

Addressing the event, Lortholary, congratulated Ambassador Thiep and said that by presenting the noble award, France has recognized and honored the ambassador’s efforts during his working term in the country.
