The Italian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Dante Brandi handed over the Knighthood of the Order of Merit of the Star of Italy to Le Thi Quynh Trang (commonly known as Trang Le), the President of Vietnam International Fashion Week in recognition of her great contributions to promoting the relationship between Vietnam and Italy in the fashion field at a ceremony held on April 6.

The Knighthood of the Order of Merit of the Star of Italy is one of the two noble medals of the Government of Italy awarded to foreigners who have made huge contributions to the development of friendship and cooperation between Italy and other countries.

During the past time, with the support from the Consulate General of Italy in HCMC, Ms. Trang Le has connected and brought to Vietnam many fashion shows from Italy’s well-known designers such as Antonio Grimaldi, Maison Gattinoni, Renato Balestra or Elisabetta Franchi, etc.

Besides, programs directed by her such as Vietnam's Next Top Model, The Face Vietnam, Vietnam International Fashion Week, etc have also contributed to promoting Italian culture and fashion products.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dante Brandi said “this is not a reward, but an honor. Ms. Trang Le is a role model who has inspired the young generations not only in the fashion industry”.

Phong, who is also President of the Friendship Parliamentarians’ Organization, said the Order is the Italian State’s recognition of efforts and contributions by Binh and other members of the Vietnam-Italy Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, Vietnamplus reported.

Binh and his colleagues have significantly contributed to promoting the legislative ties between Vietnam and Italy, thus enhancing the bilateral strategic partnership, especially in culture, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchange, she said.

The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic was founded by the second President of the Italian Republic, Luigi Einaudi, in 1951. The Order is considered as the senior order of knighthood and highest-ranking honor system of the Republic. The Order is awarded for "merit acquired by the nation" in the fields of the arts, literature, economy, social, philanthropic, and humanitarian activities. In addition, it is awarded for long and conspicuous service in the civilian and military career field.

The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic has 5 classes; Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight. The order is bestowed by decree of the President of the Italian Republic, as head of the order of knighthood under the recommendation of the President of the Council of Ministers.
