(VNF) - Ho Chi Minh City is the ninth most vegan-friendly city in Asia, animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) announced on Tuesday (Dec. 27^th).

PETA highlighted vegan eateries in HCMC such as Thanh Tinh, whose menu features meat substitutes like tofu and seitan, and Kay Vegan Bistro, which serves tempeh with barbecue sauce, Vietnamese pho (noodle soup), and desserts made with red beans and mango.

Diners also can enjoy an extensive vegan menu at Loving Hut, from barbecue chicken and banh xeo (Vietnamese crepe) to goi cuon (spring rolls) and packaged vegan meats and cheeses.

Among the city’s best vegan-friendly spots are Ngoc Tho, which prepares roasted “pork” and fried spring rolls as well as a variety of Mexican dishes, and Li Bai, which offers wok-fried “prawns” and braised sliced “beef”.

Diners can even try a veganised version of an egg at Sen Quan Chay.

Taipei is the most vegan-friendly city in Asia, thanks to its wide selection of vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants.

Following Taipei on the list was Singapore. The Southeast Asia nation has earned second place “thanks to its roaring vegan scene,” said the website.

Thailand’s Chiang Mai took third place for its “plethora of creative dishes that are as delicious as they are kind to animals.”

"Pigs, cows and chickens experience love, happiness, loneliness, and fear, just as dogs, cats, and humans do. Most animals raised for food are confined to filthy warehouses, where they're deprived of everything that's natural and important to them," PETA said a press release yesterday (Dec. 27^th).

This is the first time the group released an Asian edition of its ranking of vegan-friendly cities.
